TF_punchcrumbWhats the general view on the current generation of maver poles? i am really a daiwa fan when it comes to poles and have set my heart on the new tourney pro x.
But if the mavers can perform and at least match the pro x and are robust enough and dont suffer from joint wear like the previous maver i owned they might be worth a go.
To be fair i only had one breakage with the old maver that was in normal useage and the pole served me well but the joints on the top end sections wore out very quickly much like the old browning models that i owned ie ceramic legend.
The mavers have been around a while in the competition format so there should be plenty of feedback out there. -

TF_dunnoI looked at the 401 against the airity annd tourney pro, i preferreed the 401 and bought it and only broke one section due to an accident when the leg on the platform collapsed and the section fell against a rock. I now have a 401 and a 371 for backup and it cost alot less than a tourney pro or an airity.
Maver poles are great they are balanced andstrong and suitable for all forms of matchfishing. My only gripe with them is that they upgrade models every year.
What I dont like about Daiwa Poles is that sections become unstuck while fishing.
At last years Celtic Cup between Ireland Scotland and Wales every daiwa pole had to be taped with insulation tape as the sections came off while shipping and speed fishing in the Irish wind.
Why pay £2000 for that????

TF_ndm3108I’ve just sold my 401, not because I didn’t like the pole I should add. Before the 401 I had a pro and before that I had mavers, both the J27 followed by an N47.
The 401 is a great pole, light well balanced and strong enough for most situations. But IMO the pro is a far better pole, I loved it and it suited me perfectly, I never had any problems with sections seperating and I found it well balanced and stong enough to do any type of fishing I ever do. But I have know others who didn’t like the pro, they found it heavy. So its horses for courses really. -

TF_SliderI had the choice of most poles when I bought my new one last July.
It was between the Airity, Pro, G10 and the Mavers for me.
I ended up getting the Maver 481 for varying reasons.
1, Its very strong, plenty enough for Red Hydro
2, Its Very light comapred with Daiwa/Garbo
3, Its very stiff, even compared with G10
4, Its 16.9m with cut power kits
5, Spares are MUCH cheaper than Daiwa/Garbo.With all those boxes ticked it was a no brainer for me and I love the pole, its just as good @ 16m for F1s or on the canal for plips as it is fishing for big 15lbers with heavy rubber.
The delux power kits are simply superb, they feel like match kits in the hand but can handle big elastics with ease.
I do have niggles with the pole but they are very minor overall.
What does really annoy me with Maver is that I spend 2 grand on a brand new pole that as I sit here typing is less than 12 months old and they have already released the next one, this in future will prevent me from buying Maver ever again, I dont think they respect their cutomers enough by keep devauling our kit each year.
Daiwa had the Pro for years and garbo had the G10 for years which meant the users had the top pole throughout that time.

MadScientistThey are very very good poles – the competition kits are excellent and the spares are well priced. I think my 381 is a fantastic pole. BUT, I wouldnt buy one again – I’m sick of maver releasing 10-12 ‘new’ ones a year and constantly de-valuing a resale value. I bought mine when it came out, and it was pretty much superceeded in 9 months~naughty

TF_dunnoDitto.
Have had N47, 371 and 401.(and 13m invincible)
THERE IS MINIMAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 371 AND 401.
Coming into a few bob soon but i aint buying a Elite 77 or 501.
Theres little difference imho.~think ~think -

TF_gazmalmanThe answer to maver brining out new poles every year and ‘devaluing’ kit is very simple, buy the maver that has just been discontinued. That way you will get a very good top end pole for mid price money. I know the 401 was selling just over a grand at one point, with 10 top kits, much better value for money than a g10 or tourney.

mayoHad a 371, i bought it because of the package that came with it and the price, the top kits were fantasic but found that the joints worn abit and that they were whippy in the wind.
bought a pro and its brilliant compared to the maver and i would’nt buy another maver buts that my opinion. -

TF_chunkyloverParticipantI’ve owned a few mavers poles in the past the last being an H31, in honesty I would never buy a maver competition pole again. I had no confidence when using it as it broek around six times, the sections where very thin and the ferrules ware out easily.
I can’t comment on the new range of mavers, these may be much better. I now use a tournament pro having upgraded a fews years back from the G8, I have never had problems with the sections coming loose, I have loads of confidence in the daiwa poles and for me I will be sticking with them.
I also think the the top kits for the daiwa are excellent value for money, wide bore top kit £27 and the standard match top 3 for £45.

TF_punchcrumbwell varying comments! there was a 16 m pro x went for £1800 on e bay wish i had bought it could have picked it up in Bradford as well great price when you see the silly money people pay for a second hand tourney pro.

djhaze2004Participanti have a 401 – which is great to use – but – i have broken alot of sections due to no fault of my own – i was shipping the number 6 section behind me and it just crumbled in my hand – i returned it to maver but Briscoe wouldnt accept it. i wish i has paid the extra money for a Daiwa – you do get a good selection of kits which is why most people buy a maver so you have to weigh up your options i guess

TF_jonahI’ve got the 401 and love it to bits. Its done everything i’ve asked of it – Don’t buy the whole “broke loads of sections for no reason” thing that you hear… If a section breaks it’s generally because you’ve dinged it at some point and created a weakness – this doesn’t just happen with Mavers…!
My only moan about the pole is that it was superceded the year after I bought it, but I suppose as long as you can get sections for it if you need them that doesn’t give you a problem.
If the newer Mavers are an improvement on the 401 then consider one because when I bought mine it was head and shoulders above against all the other poles in its price range…

Likewise ive had a 371 since they first arrived in the shops, i think nearly 4 years??I paid £1300 there was nothing to touch it in the price range plus it came with 10 tops and 2 spare no4s
I needed another £1200 to buy a Tourney basic package a no-brainer for me.
For the record the pole has never seen a natural venue and has only been used on commies and has caught me literaly a ton of fish without any breakages.
The only damage is an elbow “dink” on the 11m section that i had wrapped
I think thats pretty good service when you consider everyone i know with a tourney has bust sections and has wraps on them.I would’nt hesitate buying another Maver
