I was broken into last week and some of my fishing gear was stolen. Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover me. For a few days following the break-in, I was so annoyed I couldn’t even bring myself to go and look what’s left of my gear.
I have received many phone calls, texts, forum messages, and Facebook messages off other anglers, some I have never met, offering borrowed/given tackle. This is the only ‘positive’ to come out of all of this, and I really do appreciate the messages and offers of tackle I’ve had from everyone alike.
However yesterday, I received a text from Steve Ringer that has gone way beyond what I or anyone else would ever expect. Long story short, Steve has agreed with Daiwa that as an avid and loyal Daiwa customer/fan (most of the stolen items were Daiwa), Steve/Daiwa will ‘give’ me the reels which Steve no longer uses. I simply did not know what to say to Steve, and in fact firstly said no to the offer. However Steve was having none of it, and after many texts/conversations later Steve was adamant I was to have the reels.
As I have said above, the generosity of other anglers has been simply amazing, but for Steve and Daiwa to offer what they have, goes way beyond what anyone would ever expect. I cannot thank Steve and Daiwa enough; this is way beyond what even the loyalist of customers would ever expect.
My Christmas now seems a little merrier thanks to Steve and Daiwa, especially as I can now get out on the bank.
Merry Christmas,
James Hipkiss
