loftyHi chaps, any ideas of how to get rid of the b*****d things?! Ive just bought a load of new luggage and i dont want it to get destroyed by them. Ive got a Keter plastic storage device i keep most of my gear in but from the frosts the plastic has deformed on one side leaving a small gap (i can hardly get my finger through it) for them to get through. I dont really want to resort to traps but if needs be i’ll nuke the little gits! All ideas on anything i can spray around the entrance or do is welcome!
Cheers guys

TF_Nigel.I have poison and traps down permanently in my garage. Some times don’t get one for months, but having both works, as the bait has often gone hard or missing, but the poison is the back up.

DrKennyParticipantI do the same as Nigel, can go months with nothing then some poison goes missing and a dead mouse turns up in the garden, they seem to like their last breathe to be fresh air. I put the poison into sandwich bags and tie off, they wont touch it in an open tray but put it in a bag and bingo they rip right in.

TF_geepsterParticipantI actually had rats over the winter in the garage, and they wiped out all the mice. I had to poisen the rats, and they would only take the poisen in little bags, not off a tray. I have just today caught my first mice of the winter – normally I would be catching three a day – we live next to fields. The best advice is not to leave any food out – that include groundbait bags, pags of pellets etc… They will easily eat through pots that pellets, boilies are in etc. You need to put them in really thick plastic or metals containers… leave traps out all the time. Chocolate is very good, as is peanut butter, and pellets if they have developed a taste for them….. and also leave some poisen out. Good luck, there are an angler’s worst nightmare!!!

TF_Nigel.I have a hatchery here at Barston Gareth, and i buy pellets by the ton.
This winter, the ceiling collapsed into the hatchery, as rats had got into the ceiling insulation, and had been storing pellets!
Once i cleared the pellets up, i put down a bucket of poison (£70), and 2 weeks later it had all gone, and we fetched 16 dead rats out of the ceiling as we took up the floorboards from above, replaced the insulation, and made sure the dirty buggers cant get back in! -

TF_GillboYou might not think it but rats and mice are clever little sods. If you leave a trap for them superglue the choclate so they have to move it. This gives you more chance of catching them as if its loose they can actually knock the chocolate off the trap without getting caught. You will know if you have killed them all as you wont find droppings anymore either.

TF_mike pattinsonUnfortunately mice will find their way in to almost anywhere, they climb walls, get in through the roof, even two/three stories. If they can get their head in, they are in.
As everyone states keep the traps set, remove dead mice, they will cannibalize if no other food is available, use the trap bait as food source, something that sticks to the trap, glued if necessary.
Rats, these things urinate as they travel and others follow the sent to find food/shelter/security, once rat have found their way in there difficult to keep out, you need to find where they’re getting in and securely block it off.
Rats can chew through a 15mm board in a night with ease. Keep food sources in steel containers and keep places clean/food free.
Another trick a farmer friend uses is he keeps a couple of ferrets in his feed store, natural predator.

TF_Kevin WSince the good lady put two of those electirc sonar plug things in the garage I haven’t had any problem with mice. That’s about eight months now.
I was sceptical but have to hold my hands up – they work.

DEEDOGDACEParticipantI’ve caught a shedload (of mice unfortunately) this winter – bog standard Little Nipper traps smeared with Nutella. They can’t get that off without making the ultimate sacrifice!!!
I set my traps from autumn onwards and haven’t had any chewed nets or clothing for years.
