Certainly wouldn’t call myself an authority, but I tend to work on a rough basis of 0.1g per 1ft of water, so 0.8g down to about 8 foot. My cane diamonds arrived saturday, only just finished making them up. The factors to change this would be flow, and also wind.
As for shotting pattern, I tend to shot mine with 4 number 10s, then a bulk of 10s for under 0.4gm, 9s for under 0.6gm, 8s for under a gram, then olivettes afterwards. This gives you options to fish a bulk plus droppers, fish with two sets of no 10s as droppers, to fish just a bulk, or to fish double bulk. Then it’s a case of working out what the fish want on a given day. For bream and tench I tend to start bulk plus two droppers fished a good 4-6inches overdepth, if it’s towing dragging a dropper or two on the bottom. I look, if the fishing is good, to move to a double bulk to show bites more positively. With a double bulk bites tend to be lift bites.
Hope that helps, I am sure many others will have more experience of this than me.
