Right, fished cudmore/suez on saturday, started on caster shallow but was virtually missing nearly every bite apart from the odd one, switched to feeding and fishing pellet and two carp in two casts and then all of a sudden started to miss bites one after the other again.
apart from about an hour and a half in the middle of the match, i was getting bites all day shallow but missing them aswell.
I tried going shallower, deeper, one caster, two casters, three, 4mm soft pellet, banded pellet, basically everything i could think of, but still kept missing bites all day.
My line was 0.13 preston, size 16 t808, 0.1gram garb dc7 i think, the shallow floats anyway.
What could i have done different that i hadnt already tried above that would of meant connecting with the bites?
P.S ended up with 29.8 lb
        Thanks Gary

Sorry to hijack you thread but i’ve been having similar problems lately when fishing pellet and corn. I can catch fish for a while but all of a sudden i start missing 90% of bites, fishing up in the water just brings the same results and its driving me up the wall. Iv tried fishing everywhere between the deck and 6 inches deep and as i said im still missing bites.

fish as shallow as you can gets bites with a light float and your bulk 3″ from the hook dotting it to the tiniest dimple so its almost sunk, size 16 b911 tied knotless not and a singe caster hooked so theres loads of point showing, fish a really short line to the float, i use about half an inch to an inch to my dacron connector. use a really soft elastic and every bite will pull your aggy out. obviously you will struggle to fish like this with any ammount of wind tho

once you start getting bites try cutting back on your feed, ideally you want to eb feeding as little as possible while still being able to get bites, this will egt them competing more and combined with the short rigs light float and angled hook you should hit almost every bite

Spot on mate! Virtually exactly how I get around the problem. Most of the time its F1s

ratneck most of the bites you are getting on suez are from roach. When the f1s chub tench etc are having it you will catch them.

dont you believe it we used to think this till we fished how adam has explained ,that inch lash is unreal they just pull your lazzy out

if you ever get chance to feed floating pellets and watch the fish youll see why .i was mowing the grass on cedar and got a bag of floaters and chucked em in the mirrors swim at the pellets the f1s come nearly vertical from underneath and sink back down the same way it was uncanny watching them

Thanks for the reply everyone, i will definately give it a try at the weekend, i thought it may be roach at first but i could see carp crashing about all day in my swim, just shows i thought i tried everything and then ask you lot and get more tips!!
                          thanks gary

hair rigged pellet band, and keep slapping it onto the water.

                              there is another way….

use around a 6″ lash, and as you slap your float in, do it in a way so after you ‘slap’ you instantly hold your float an inch out of the water

you certainly wont miss bites then!!

tp, that works fine fi your fishing pellets, not so good wih casters though because they tend to burst as you slap them on the water with any ammount of force ?

Why would anybody fish casters over pellet on a water that allows pellet?

baitchef, the psot was asking baout fishing caster shallow. i was answering the origional question.

also on canal style lakes casters are quite often better than pellets because of the ammount of ide in alot of them that are worth catching

adam1, you say have the bulk about 3 inches from the hook?
with it been a 0.1g float, i only have 1xno8 stotz directly under float and then 1xno9style about 3 inches from float, reason being a lot of people say that the bait should fall as natural as possible, hence no shot down the line.
What shot do you use for the bulk and why all of it 3 inches from hook? Thanks for the replys aswell.

Adam, I see, I didn’t realise you are fishing for a variety. The hair rigged pellet is very effective, fished bolt rig style similar to your caster rig if you wish to target carp & better fish specifically with pellet though.

baitchef, totally agree with you, whenever im fishing for just carp i use the exact same rig but with a lassoed pellet on it

ratneck i use 01 gram carp 4s and 2x number 9 stotz dots them so there hardly showing

to be honest i dont think you wnat your bait dropping through the water because your not looking to catch F1s on the drop ( if you were you’d miss far too many bites) your looking to catch them at a set depth. the bulk being so close to the hook keeps everything between the float and the bulk in a straight line and keeps it all tight meaning the rig is much more direct.
