Chappers23ParticipantI’ve finally decided on getting some new waterproofs as mine are no longer! I’ve been looking at the Halkon Hunt goretex, but they are exoensive £500+. Has anyone used the protak TR, new maver pro clothing or the preston drifish range?
Need some advise from people who have tried and tested the clothing, as in the past I’ve brought stuff thats claimed to waterproof and wasn’t. Feed up getting soaked when it rains!!!

kenny1Can recommend the Protak TR, had the pole jacket and bib and brace for 2 years no problems at all, also very useful is that they will make to your size, I am 6’6″ so they added on a couple of inches to the legs, If you live close to Alderley Edge you can drop round to get measured, if not send them sizes. Was quite quick to be made as well.

Chappers23ParticipantKenny does the TR clothing stay waterproof when shipping a pole backwards and forwards over your lap in heavy rain?

AnonymousYes chappers it does stay waterproof,i’ve had protak tr and goretex (two sets)..both sets of goretex have leaked and the protak has never let me down..I now wear the protak when it rains/winter etc and i wear the goretex through the summer as it is not lined so therefore cooler.
For the price of protak which is approx 1/4 of the price of goretex, you cant go wrong.

Chappers23ParticipantTomW
Well it chucked it down for the two nights, hence looking for waterproofs as mine leaked like mad, they are 5years old though!!!
Caught a 16lbs and 14lbs in the night, yes it was chucking it down, 4ins throughout the night, bummer!
Had a club match at Cross Drove (Hockwold) yesterday and won the match with 102lbs off peg 5!
Not bad as the open was only won with 70lbs odd and was told its the first ton since reopening in Jan!!!
How did the rest of your WA trip go?

Chappers23ParticipantCheers Woddy999, do they do an unlined version then as generally dont get too cold in winter as wear layers, just need something to keep the water out!

AnonymousI dont know if you can get them un-lined chappers but if you give Protak a call i’m sure they can oblige, they are very friendly helpful people.

TF_Waveney OneYes, they come unlined if you want and like woody, I have had both and Protek TR is just as good as Halkon Hunt.

kenny1Definetly stay dry, I cant stand using a brolly and dont even bother taking one with me anymore, just put the hood up. I seem to remember I had a choice of two lining thicknesses (could be wrong) went for the thinner one which is fine all year, just use more fleece layers in winter (also from protak)

kenny1Probably isnt, although Ive never used HH I doubt they are 5 times better, even if Protak lasts half as long (which is a few years) you spread the cost and get a new set which means you dont have to clean it!

TF_mart4666just bought protak TR 3/4 jacket, salopettes, overtrousers and bone dry when in other clothing was wet. its great value plus lass on phone is so polite and helpful. one minor point is jacket is very warm in summer, phew????? BUT CAN’T WAIT FOR WINTER. NEVER COULD JUSTIFY GORETEX, BET THATS GOOD TOO. had team mosella before, it rained in and fell to bits in 4 month £170 down the drain

TF_knockersagree with woody999, can be a bit warm in summer, great for winter and when it rains ,only a minor point but the standard blue it comes in is quite bright, think they do do the TR range in other colours though

TF_CutnutJust had three sets of unlined made to measure and embroidered with names down arms and legs for £372 for me and the two lads. Excellent service and excellent value, as for being waterproof yes without doubt, would not have bothered otherwise.
Have had Map, Daiwa (not goretex), and a few others and they have all been sieves.
Protak TR has been money well spent. Have also got sets of lined ones for winter and you are definitely toastie in them and dry. The legs are only lined to below the knee as they consider you may be using wellies or sitting in water. I had our lined ones extended as we tend not to fish places where there’s no need to sit down in the water.
Have always considered Goretex but have never been able to convince myself of the value/additional cost since buying Protak.

TF_CutnutColours can be done to order Jon. Just have to wait a week or so longer for them to be made if not Blue or Black, Green or olive.

BatesoParticipantA freind has just bought some cabelas goretex from america and its top notch stuff! and considering you currently get 2 dollars to the pound it makes it a bargain, I have protak and have done for bout 6 years now and it excellent! prob is it dont breath!!

TF_ubatI have Cabelas and happy with it.

TF_CutnutBateso I beg to differ on the don’t breath comment IF its the TR gear or Premier, the Matchman doesn’t never will being Nylon.. The key to all breathable gear is to wear layers underneath that breath too and wick moisture away from the skin, if you don’t then you will get wet from your own sweat.

TF_baitchefParticipantAvoid cotton as well as it absorbs moisture. I have had Gore-tex for a while now & would not go back to anything else.

alfieParticipantthe key is to avoid cotton next to your skin, the best stuff to use is POLARMAX it’s 100% polyester.
I work in 100 degree heat during the summer and the sweat just goes through the shirts and doesn’t stay in the shirt. If I wear a cotton shirt it is just drenched all day long.
Here something like this….http://www.nextag.com/polarmax/search-html
