TF_baitchefParticipantWell not totally new as Its probably been done before.
But I have mixed up a nice groundbait for tomorow (breaming again at the Tamar lake) using a mix of ground vitalin and ground coarse rabbit food. The rabbit food is an interesting addition as it contains lots of pulses, grains, grass pellets and biscuits and vegetable matter which give it a nice organic feel.As discussed, careful preparation is needed as it seems to contain quite a high content of molasses and its also quite protein rich.
But its nothing that a good blender, sieve and maggot riddle wont sort.
It also takes a fair bit longer to absorb than the biscuit or fishmeal based groundbaits, but this isn’t a problem as most of the time we need inert groundbait and mix it well before is needed.
I have also worked out that if you need more attraction all you have to do is add a small handful of the dry mix to the wetted mix, and it makes it more active.
A nice by product after the initial sieving once blended is a residue of coarse particles. These could also have good usage and i can see once wetted down they could be added in case you need the mix to contain some bigger particles.
Another obvious advantage is cost, both these products can be obtained for as little 60-90p per kilo, perfect if you intend to use a fair bit. 😀
I can see it being popular on the commercials as well, especially with the growing popularity of groundbaiting down the edge.
Its also a much better alternative to fishmeal, which lets face it, is only going to get more expensive.
So there we have it, the proof as they say is in the pudding so we shall see how it performs tomorrow, im going for the big uns 😀

TF_Waveney OneIt’ll be good to hear how well it works. You seem to be catching a few down at Tamar.

TF_baitchefParticipantWere they… just a little bit. 😀
To cut a long story short, had the best day ever.
Struggled to lift the net out of the water and had to pack up because there were too many fish in it.
One a chuck after a slow first hour.
Had a big perch forst chuck on hair rigged single corn 😀
I did add a little of the dry byproduct i mentioned which helped with the consistancy. I also switched to the biggest drennan gripmesh feeder to get plenty of bait down.
Best bait…… 4 bits of corn hair rigged to a size 14 Matrix rigger 😀 😀 -

TF_baitchefParticipantAnother one.
They all went back safe and sound and swam away strongly. -

TF_baitchefParticipantThanks for the kind words.
Its brilliant fishing there to be honest.
Although the reservoir is man made, I have never come across a natural venue that is so prolific and yet still challenging.Next step is to try and find out just how big the bream go…… 🙂 Then a bit of spinning for the perch. 😎

TF_SliderDid you honestly just put those fish on the grass to take a picture ?
Thats hideous IMO and something we should never ever see !!!

TF_baitchefParticipantI’m not sure what your problem is and i’m not going to get drawn into an argument.
All I will say is that there were 3 of us there to put the fish back straight away, they were laid out on soft pre wetted grass approximately 1.5 meters from the bank which you cant see. The bream and the perch were the last to go back and were out of the water for about 3 minutes and swam away instantly.
I can tell you now that those fish were looked after equally if not better than any fish Ive ever experienced being weighed in and returned in a match. -

TF_SliderDont want an argument, ive always respected your opinions.
Im afraid I find the treatment of those fish to be far from acceptable.

whats the difference between soft wet grass and a keepnet/weigh sling or weighing mat photo shoot you see week in week out in the press like bait chef says they always go back alive and healthy

TF_baitchefParticipantIts a fair point, the photo doesnt look good. A mat would have been better, thats a fact

TF_thedogMake the most of your vitalin. Was told by the shop I got mine for Ireland that the company had stopped producing it because there was no call for it as a dog food anymore
