TF_SelfeyBeen there on a pairs match last 2 sats We were 3rd in the final I had weights of 48lbs off peg 18 and 40 lbs yesterday off peg 9
Method to the islands I used 15gram preston inline with green swimstim no other food and bury 3 red maggots. Start a meter off and slowly move closer till you get signs on the tip simple. Carp from a pound to six.
Do not spray pellet over they back off
Pole is deep longer than my top 3 ( Pro top with no1s removed ) fished 0.10 stroft .4 gram with bulk of no10s half depth then 2 no10 droppers evenly spread to a 18 hook.
Fish two lines 10 and 2 oclock Put in two balls of swimstim and half a pot of micro pellet on both line leave for a hour while on the method. When you go on the pole 4mm soft pellet on the hook the bites are just as the float settles so lots of lifting and dropping.
No feed when you are fishing a line feed and move as they back off at first then return. Looking for carp and lb plus skimmers on the pole.
Take a platform as there are no proper pegs made up and you use the fishery keepnets so take banksticks. Breckfast is the best Ive ever had and the homemake cake after is even better. Top Fishery…. -

Dandy’s Ford fishery is north of Romsey.
Take the A27 from Romsey to Salisbury and at the crossroads in Sherfield English you will see a garden centre on your left. Turn left down the lane and about 800 metres later on the right you will come to the fishery. Large wooden gate at the entrance. Initially, park at the Clubroom/restaurant and later park up at the match lake.
There are three lakes, Match, Lodge and Snake(canal). You will almost certainly be on the match lake which has 21-22 pegs.
As Selfey says, great food before and after your match.
If you cannot enjoy your fishing at Dandy’s Ford then you will never enjoy it anywhere, it is that good in my opinion and Mick and I have been going there since it opened.
You should take your pole, a waggler rod and a method rod.
There are carp, bream, chub, roach, perch in the lakes plus some barbel.
Hope this little info. helps and have a good match.~clap -

AnonymousSelfey. what length on the pole line do you fish ? will i catch on a margin line in the last hour ? Is there a near self ?
-
01/03/2010 at 9:46 pm #96638
TF_SelfeyI fished at 14m both days. The water will drop off then stays flat to the islands. I never saw anyone fish the margins or catch from them.
If you are up one of the bays they still fish over to the far bank with pole or wag/method. On a couple of the pegs you can reach islands with the pole peg 20 being one and is a flyer.
Guess you are on there Wed with the basey lads. -

TF_cormorantsteve r,
yes, I do know Speedy.
Ex-member of the Cormorants and now an almost permanent feature at Dandy’s Ford who will also give you the latest info. you need.
Suggest you take a bit of punched meat and a few worms as a last resort. pleasure fishing late last year I had a good bag on these from pegs 7 and 8 up to the island.
In my opinion the best pegs are 3, 4, 6, 7, 10,18 and 20. with 20 regularly winning matches.
good luck,
cormorant.~clap -

-
04/03/2010 at 11:45 am #97066
TF_cormorantpaul carpenter,
no, I am afraid not.
Those matches are generally series matches organised by John the owner and the same ten anglers fish them, moving up one peg per match so that they all fish all of the pegs in the series.
I no longer fish club/open matches although I fish the same waters as we fish our club matches on.(Too ****** old matey.)
cheers,

TF_allyParticipantCongratulations mickys mate on your familys latest double, hes a biggy by any ones standard.
I have been to Dandys and think its a fantastic setting with very good fishing, but must say I find it a bit sad that present day match fishing takes place on such small venues.

TF_cormorantthanks ally. 10.15 sure is big. had a carp about that size yesterday and all i ncan say is that sarah must have been very brave!!!!!
frost, how did you do on the match lake? we3 did hear that it was not fishing well and saw a few early leavers pass by.
we fished until 2.30 and gave up…had a 10 lb carp, a 1 lb skimmer and 5 little tench(newly stocked,) and from what we saw that was the best on the lake. john metcalf dropped two carp on the pole from peg 2 and was into little silvers when we left. wont tell you how many my mate didn’t catch………..

08/03/2010 at 8:31 pm #97627
AnonymousIt didn’t fish well, 27lb won the match from peg 6, 17lb 2nd peg 19 (Well done Paul) 15lb 3rd. 17 fish in total and there were blanks….
I draw the flyer peg 20 8lb (3 carp)…
Roll on the summer when we are back there again, should fish a lot better then (so everyone tells me).
Thanks again for all the information…..
-
10/03/2010 at 8:20 pm #97935
TF_cormorantobviously your mates didn’t take any notice when i said that if you drew peg 20 they could all go home.
never mind, next time you will really get into the carp if you get that peg again.
how did you fish it??

-
02/08/2010 at 6:35 pm #112330
TF_peter9000uk88lb won from peg 20 Sunday I was told today with backing weights in the 50s. That’s all I know as his phone kept cutting out!

TF_kingfisherGareth, it’s been fishing it’s nuts off lately! Jon Gray broke the match record last week (Sat. 24th) with 186-15, 155-12 was 2nd and 147-12 3rd, with a few other tons also.
The last time I fished there it was noticeable the average size of the fish is slowly going up, presumably due to the amount of feed going in now. Shouldn’t be too long before the 200lb mark goes.
Good fishery, but the shape of it means certain pegs dominate – you’ve still gotta catch ’em though!
Worth going just for the breakfast, bit of an upgrade from the breakfast buttys at Greenridge!
-
02/08/2010 at 8:44 pm #112346
TF_welshmagicLol- I don’t mind the frikka’s at Greenridge….when they’re cooked that is!
I might be able to fish Dandy’s on sat as a mate who’s booked in prob can’t make it. I hear Jon caught on shallow pellet- is it 4mms or 6mms? Long or short? What sort of gear are people using? I would imagine 0.14- 10 latex would be sufficient- is that about right? Has anyone fished caster shallow? I’m tempted to go armed with 8 pints and have a proper go at them
Cheers
Gareth

TF_kingfisherNot 100% sure as I wasn’t there, but knowing Jon, it would have been 6mm pellet shallow.
Quite a lot of silvers and small fish so 4mm probably too small, you’ll need to bear that in mind if you go with caster also. Not heard of anyone giving it the caster but there’s always a first time! One things for sure if you do catch, everyone else will be on it soon!
It’s nearly all pellet and paste this time of year. Most fish are 1lb-3lb with odd lumps up to 8lb.
Good luck with the caster.
