Report:
Leading up to the match, although the rain had been relentless the weather forecast had been rather encouraging, indicating a dry and possibly sunny day. However, the day broke with drizzle, and although we had some sun when the brisk and bitterly cold SW wind switched to NW the heavens opened and everything got soaked again. We really need a couple of weeks of dry weather to dry out the banks on Lake Two as the mud is getting worse each week!
However, on the fishing side there was another reasonable turnout and once again everyone caught fish. Although the “A” bank again dominated the results, by paying an over all winner and then (default) bank winners it gave everyone something to fish for.
Winning his first Nisa Open (and saying he had served a long and hard apprenticeship) was Phil Hunt. On peg A18, Phil set up his pole, feeder, and bomb rods. He started on the bomb (baited with a wafter) and did not have to wait long before his tip was pulled around and carp number one was net-bound. He remained on that tactic throughout the match to end with 88-11 of carp.
On peg A15, Allan Neale also concentrated on the bomb, and catching on bread at first and wafter later, managed to put 47-08 on the scales to take second place (and win the “A” bank) by a mere one ounce.
Andy Findlay, who on peg A21, was the unlucky angler who was edged out of the money. Andy put 47-07 on the scales at the end of the match, mainly carp with a couple of decent bream. He caught on bomb and bread at first and then later, on the method feeder.
Winning the “B” bank and taking fourth place overall was Peter Stockwin, who from peg B3 caught three carp and a bream on the method feeder to weigh in 22-10, just enough to push John Adamson (peg B19 with 4 method caught carp weighing 22-03) into fifth place.
Many thanks to Andy Findlay for his scales work. The photographs show the top three placed anglers with their catches.
NB. Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook “Nisa – midweek open matches” to book a place).
