TF_SwimfeederIs this really what this Country has come to?
I think as a nation England is one of the least patriotic nations on the planet, rarely displaying patriotic outbursts, if you study other nations like the USA,Australia, South Africa, Argentina etc they are very, very passionate about their flag and country, in comparison the English are quiet and reserved, what is wrong with displaying the flag of your country every 4 years for 3 weeks during the summer? THIS IS ENGLAND, IF AN ENGLISH PERSON CANNOT FLY AN ENGLISH FLAG IN ENGLAND ,WHERE THE HELL CAN ONE BE FLOWN?

TF_SwimfeederMorning Neil, the thing is, this is English on English……… why do some of my Countrymen in a position of power insist on apologising to the rest of the World for being English? Those are the idiots that need to vacate this Country mate.

TF_dirkdigglerthese residents in this housing association need to dig their heels in a bit here.
if you let other people lead you around by the nose all your life all your going to get is a sore nose.
i reckon if they all stuck together and said we’ll take our flags down if we don’t have to pay the rent i’m sure the flags would suddenly be ok.
i think these pissed with power type people don’t realise the amount of resentment there is towards them and politicians etc~naughty

TF_steve rBob, you’ll probably find that a lot of thought has gone into this ban. I’m sure this particular Housing Association are not being unpatriotic in anyway but concerned where the chavs living there are going to nick their England flags from in the first place so, in reality, they’re really trying to protect the local shopkeepers rather than banning the English flag. LOL

TF_GavinI don’t know what the association are that worried about, they’re only five minutes walking from where I live, I can tell you in no way could anyone get to those houses by road without passing another million flags first!
I’ve got a couple out, but have been upstaged by somebody just up from me with a 9ft by 5ft flag on the front of their house!

TF_pr@nglerI don’t see this as a sign of something wrong with England but of something wrong with somebody sat in an office.
We had the same thing when my kids were at primary school and one of the teachers worried if some people might be offended by the ‘Christmas fayre’. It was patronising of her because she didn’t think to ask anybody from a minority group if they were offended. Of course nobody was offended by it. The lady who made the cake for the ‘Guess-how-many-currants-in-the-cake’ every year was muslim and just happened to enjoy baking cakes!
We used to live in Peckham where there are people from all over the world. During the 2002 world cup there were flags from all the different countries. It added to the occasion.
Agree that more pressure should be placed on the housing association. Although another issue here is that they might want to keep the place looking ‘posh’.

TF_wightanglerunless Adlantic Estates, Kent LA & Boulton Ha can find a logical health and safety reason as legal defense including as Landlord, then their selective actions could surely be viewed as discriminatory and in breach of the Human Rights Act 1988.
http://www.opsi.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/ukpga_19980042_en_3
Namely;
the right to respect for private and family lifefreedom of thought, conscience and religion, and freedom to express your beliefs
freedom of expression
the right not to be discriminated against in respect of these rights and freedoms
the right to peaceful enjoyment of your propert
Given, that the vehicle flags would presumably have been certified as safe by health and safety before being allowed to be sold publically, then the Local councils apparent actions seem contradictory at the least.
It is worth noting whether non-english tenants have been threatened with prosecution for displaying non-english flags or placards outside their homes. Simuarly, although judicially separate – whether scots displaying flags have suffered simular. If any of the latter could be photographed or evidenced then surely that would be grounds for a defence of discrimination by the english residents of Wherry Housing Association and Atlantic Estates.
Moreover, that private owner occuppiers are not prevented from doing so- would surely make a case for further discrimination against tenants on the above grounds and social exclusion from the rights enjoyed by other residents of the community.Given that Atlantic Estates advertise themselves as selling as well as renting houses and flats in west london- then unless their is a clause in the freehold leases that they sell preventing private buyers from displaying any flags including our national flag -then this could potentially be evidence of discrimination by them against tenants.
I would think a case of prosection against a resident who refuses to comply -and would face possible eviction- would gather nationwide publicity as well as offers of professional expert legal defense. -

You may have a point! this place is right on the river, and as it happens looks quite nice. When the brochures came out they took pics from across the river. The thing with this is they moved all the “crusties” in their boats along to take the pictures! They were all back after mind, and are still there now. It’ll never look posh when half the boats out the front are only on the surface because they are tied to the railings!
Incidentally, right behind the flats is Tesco (the offical England supermarket) with bunting, flags and England badges galore all over it!

TF_GaryI used to work for a large accountancy firm and we were not allowed to have a “Christmas” party for fear of offending minorities. We had a “Festive bash” one year and an “End of year party” the next. What a joke.

TF_HillbillyShould have rounded them all up and sent them off in a leaky boat. We as a nation should NOT tollerate this sort of behaviour from people, if they don’t like our way of life they should bugger off and live somewhere else !!

tunnel topperhold on every-one, don’t get hot under the collar at our friends from oversea.
it is not them who are objecting to our patriotism and flag waveing. to them this is natural and is what they expect us to do.the complaints are comming from bigotted administraters in attempt to raise hatered against the none English in an attemt to drive them out.
if anyone receives such a letter reply to the writer pointing this out and ask if that is their intention.
keep the flag flying.
