O/T cheltenham 1st. race

does any one know anything about d. pipes runner, in the supreme novices race, flying cross.
it was also entered in the champion hurdle so the pipe team must think that it has ability. it was in the irish ledger for aiden o’brien and it’s well bred but has not ran for a couple of years.
it is showing 66/1. any one know if that is generous odds or just wishful dreaming?

Probably wishful thinking, being “Group Class” on the Flat has never been a guarantee of success over hurdles, for every Alderbook then are 10 River Norths. Aside from anything else it looks a really hot race this year although I think the favourite is ridiculously short for a horse that’s not put in a really good time. I like Melodic Rendezvous, if it was trained ny Nicholls or Henderson he’d be half the price he is. He’ll also be a good pointer for the bumper because the same yard have a horse called Empiricle turned a Huntingdon race containing a few winners into an absolute farce, winning hard held. I was told at last Cheltenham meeting that Melodic Rendezvous can’t live with it on gallops so if he goes close in Novice then you can be fairly sure the other one won’t be far away in bumper either.

Empiricle was declared a non runner in the bumper yesterday, i think.

And short or not, the favourite has about a stone in hand in the ratings for the first race, i think it was Cumani who said years ago “the only people who should be worried about time are those in jail” ….

looks like empiricle is a non runner now but agree that melodic is value in the 1st.cant have the favourite at that price even though i was on it last time.6/4 with hills. 😮 😮 😮

Gutted about Empiricle.

I’ve been going threre for so long I’m ulra cautious about short priced favourites in the 1st, so many of them get turned over.
