Googled ‘sparrows eating their own body weight every day’ – “The variety of birds and diets worldwide make this a difficult question to answer. In general, because birds have high metabolism, they eat almost constantly while they are awake. (They also poop all the time as a result). It is not uncommon for a small songbird to eat more than its own weight in a single day”

I found a zebra finch a few months ago and took it in – as a result our Tevez and his two mates (I felt sorry for him and got him two pals from Salford to keep him company – my missus still thinks it was a ploy and I bought him) are eating me out of house and home so I would say that if they are anything like my three they will eat til they burst.

Shame the fish in the pegs I’m drawing at the moment aren’t doing the shame……

I have not seen sparrows in any number for a couple of years round my way.

I live next to a wood and it is all green woodpeckers and flocks of 8-10 magpies.

Also very seldom see starlings in the garden now.

seeing more sparrows this year than for the last 5years seems to be cycles in less numbers, also less bees about could be due to mobile phone waves ????? the bat population round my way highest in london fishing still crap though??

The absence of sparrows is due to the magpies, they trash the nests.

Plenty of garden birds near me because, ironically, there are a couple of large crows which keep all the other corvids off their patch.
Fewer swifts than normal this year but plenty of bloody woodies, which won’t be so cocky come November!

been putting sunflower hearts out since january now, got a regular crew of goldfinches, a pair of greenfinches that turn up now and again, plenty of house sparrows on the feeder, its funny, cause when i hear them cheaping, it takes me back to waking up in the summer as a kid, a sound i havent heard for a long time, so they must be coming back, starting to see the starlings flock together, thought it a bit early for that, usually an autumn thing i thought.
