TF_GavinMore to the point, where’s Joe Cole? the one person who really can pick a pass or make a bit of magic…..
-
18/06/2010 at 8:33 pm #107993
TF_andy cranes mateParticipantRooney was shite. Still, do the players really care? I doubt it. It summed it up for me with 3 minutes to go Lampard was carrying the ball forward and Rooney was jogging to the area. FFS he should have been busting a gut!

TF_Mikey .J.Dont think you can blame rooney. The midfield didnt create one good chance for him.

TF_macca63Too many overpaid prima donnas thats the problem money for old rope, the worst England performance I’ve seen for years that was totally dire and a national disgrace.

I’m sorry but he’s billed as one of the best players in the world. He could control or pass the ball, the basics.

TF_Mikey .J.You’ll be blowing him off next week when he slaps in some goals.

TF_The RunnerWent to Ljubljana for a long weekend a couple of years back and came back with a Slovenia top as a souvenir.
After that performance tonight, very tempted to wear it down the pub next Wednesday- at least I’d be supporting a team with a bit of heart. -

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEI hate to repeat myself time and time again. We are not World beaters. Our average “English” players are made to look good when they are playing with the great foreign players in the Premiership.Take these players away and play against them and the truth reveals itself. We are average and the other up and coming Countries are catching up fast. There arent any pushovers anymore.I have said so many times Rooney aint World class,he above others looks good with great service from truly World class players. He tonight should have been subbed, but the Manager did not have the bollox to bring him off and put on Joe Cole…FACT.

TF_caster robParticipantGood post Mick.
Over-rated lacking in talent bunch supported by deluded SKYTV brainwashing to flog their hopeless sports channels.
Nice to see the Algerian players using deft technique as a method of first touch, whilst our lot used anvils.
Embarrassing, the result notwithstanding.

TF_nitro.I have said so many times Rooney aint World class,he above others looks good with great service from truly World class players. He tonight should have been subbed, but the Manager did not have the
x to bring him off and put on Joe Cole…FACT.Nonsense. Rooney is easily world class. How can a forward bang in goals WITHOUT great service from world class players? His job is to finish chances, he does it very well, but none are being created for him. What you have said is like saying, James is a terrible goalkeeper, without world class players taking stunning shots at him, he can only pull off bog standard saves. He can only do his job and work with what is given. England as a team are useless, Lampard should never wear the england shirt again he has been a total failure in his whole time in the squad.

TF_SwimfeederCappello is starting to show his true genius and the signs are very ,very encouraging, it might not be obvious to some, but clearly his plan was to work the England defence and goalie to build their confidence, and it has to be said, his plan was a resounding success, England’s midfield and forwards were not needed tonight and we kept a nice clean sheet to set up a last game encounter to qualify…….I can hardly wait! Come on the mighty England!

TF_KatarinoSooner or later I hope people will cotton on to a fundamental truth that, like the Emperors Clothes is considered heresy in a world dominated by Sky TV and that is….. The Premier League is a crock of poo.
It is virtually non-competitive, dominated by the same few clubs who have built such a base of wealth that it is virtually impossible for a ‘normal’ club to compete. If you don’t believe me look how many different clubs finished in the top 4 in the old division 1 through the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Then look what happened after Sky took over.
Due to the amount of money flooding into the game we then see an avalanche of foreign players heading this way in such of a quick buck (remember George Weahs’ cousin at Southampton). As a result the England manager, whoever it is, has a smaller and smaller pool to pick from. The current crop of England players aren’t that great, Rooney, Gerrard (off to Madrid soon after his ‘difficulties’) maybe but Heskey? Johnson? Lennon? James/Green/Hart?
Added to which, the policy of ‘non-competitive’ sports teaching in schools (because things like being the last person to be picked in a football team scar you for life apparently) means the talent is being killed before it ever develops. Celtic won a European Cup with a team all born within 30 miles of the ground. Scotland consistently produced top class players and whilst their international side rarely lived up to the talent it contained take a look back at some of the talent Scotland produced. Now it’s all gone mostly because school pitches were sold off and politically correct teaching methods drove kids away before they developed. You could add the same about the Liverpool side of ’77, there were 6(?) scousers in that side. The kids are still out there but they are not being picked up or developed.
In a few weeks, England will be back with their tails between their legs and everyone will get amnesia as Andy Gray screams “it’s the best League in the Worldâ€

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEGood points in your excellent post Roy.9/10 imo.
I agree with everything except your thoughts on our friend Wayne.Okay i dont think he is fully fit,and he might be “burnt out” after a long season, but he aint World class.
He couldnt trap or control the ball last night, and he was truly out of sorts for whatever reason.I admit hes the best we have, but he is now playing with average English players.
Also it looks like you have heard the rumours about Steve Gerrard, and you are right he will be leaving this country to get away from the proplems that surround him…imo. -

tunnel topperyear after year we pick the same old players and when they play cr&p we blame the manager and change him. his replacement picks the same players who play cr&p so we change the manager who picks…. the record ha got stuck lol.
isn’t it time we realise that it is the players who are at fault not the manager. they may be the best footballers we have got but they do not seem able to play as a team. during the games building up to the world cup we always played better in the second half when all the big names had been substituted.
isn’t it time we ditched all the big names and played thoes who can play as a team?as for wallcote do you mean wallpaper? the young arsenal player who hangs there looking pretty?~clap ~clap ~clap ~clap

TF_geepsterParticipantJoe Cole was about the only player who came out of that game with any credit. Has he fallen out with Capello or something?
You are right about Lampard – absolutely awful in both games. Gerrard’s mind obviously on his other worries last night… Rooney looks injured, Lennon lost, Johnson appalling…
Where was the leadership from the likes of Terry and Ashley Cole?
That was one game when we could have done with Beckham fit to come on in the second half and show the others what taking responsibility means.
However, luckily we still have a damn good chance of qualifying.
My main worry is that in our third name they need a draw, and we have shown how skilled we are (not) at breaking down teams who are playing for a draw.
Could be another shocker on the way.
-
19/06/2010 at 3:26 pm #108077
TF_caster robParticipantYou have to conclude that if they can’t beat that shower then Algeria don’t deserve to qualify.

tunnel topperhave always liked swp but been disapointed with him, but then he did not play well when with chelski, and with a fair number of chelski players in the england squad is it a coincident. can he not fit in with their way of playing or do they not whant him there?
in ’66 alf ramsey did not “pick his best players but picked his best team.”
a lesson to be learnt me thinks.
