TF_geepsterParticipantThey also lead Brazil 2-0 in the final didn’t they. They have talent alright. I expect them to score, but England to score more.

Not me Rob!I was never a fan of Sven or his staff, I severely criticized his choice of the “Boy Wonder” Walcott at the time and the way we played.
“This time I am nailing my colours to the mast, this time England have a proper manager/coach, Cappello is the real deal, I do not believe we can win it without a huge slice of luck though as good as HE is, events will have to go England’s way too, but underdogs do win things occasionally, and this could be England’s time.
Logic tells me it will be Spain, and we could meet them en route, but when it gets to the knockout stage anything can and does happen, by the way, I believe we will draw with the yanks on Saturday”.Well, one of my predictions has come true, I hope I am correct with the others!!
Winning the World Cup is all about building momentum, slow strart ,strong finish, there were plenty of positives to take forward to the next game IMO.

trickyOOOOOOPS!!!!!!!!!
Wonder why our national team never live up to expectations???????
Is it because we have far too many mediocre mercenary Foreign players stopping our young talent in this country from developing and breaking through and therefore we can’t hack it at World level???
Cos if you was a football club owner and had paid 10 to 20 million for a player would you want him playing before a home grown no name player.
Or am I reading too much into this????

Must be only “proper manager/coaches” who select players who have (a) had a fever all week and are demonstrably not fully-fit and (b) central defenders who can only play for half the game.
This game was the opposite of building momentum, strong start, weak finish, suspect on crosses and unable to retain possession.

TF_SwimfeederCapello picked a team to face the USA and not LOSE, some things are beyond his control, The abhorrent goal, Ledley’s problem flaring up after only 45 mins and Milners fatigue through illness are minor issues, the big picture is not losing the first game, this is always key, England are on their way, we will build momentum and play much better as the competition progresses……….mark my words Rob.
Italy won it last time round and they did not pull up any tree’s along the way, France made the final too, can you honestly say they were outstanding?
People are too quick to criticize, and too quick to gloat and focus on the negatives.
Click this link for a balanced view of the game.

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEWhen will you all realise lads,England are not World beaters and never will be imo.The only reason they look good is cause they are playing with great foreign players week in week out.Take these players away and they show what they are…Fair.
Of course like you all i get caught up in the hype and start dreaming and hoping this could be our year, but we are deluding ourselves….Semi Finals maybe, futher?….I just cant see it lads.To be fair,i dont think they played to badly last night, and the yanks aint the mugs they used to be….COME ON ENGLAND..PROVE ME WRONG. -

TF_CutnutI find it most difficult to get over excited about snoozeball and have done ever since 1966. Fortunately, the only one in our house who likes the game has his own telly and can be confined to quarters and last night I found him on his x-box long before the game was over..muttering something about a bunch of inept players with a lack lustre approach blah blah blah

TF_Chris OwenParticipantFully agree with Mick.
If England were half as good as we think, we would win every game.
As a national team England are not up there with the best, it is time people accept this and not get carried away every time they play.

TF_SwimfeederI think a lot of you England knockers do not realise just how good the USA are, England outplayed them overall in the 90 minutes but gifted them an easy goal, England certainly did not fire on all cylinders that is a fact, but I saw significant signs of a very, very good team. I do not think there is a coach/manager involved that would relish playing the Yanks, indeed, it is going to be interesting to see how far the Yanks get, I would not bet against them reaching the quarter finals at the very least, they are a good side.

What 1st half was you watching Bob?? England played well for up to where they scored the goal..they were on the attack….then there passing went to pot . and sat on the back foot and paid for it whilst the yanks hammered in shot after shot.
Then after they got a roasting in the changing room by boss , they come out and showed the yanks how to play football and were unlucky not to put another one away.
I didn’t even know that rooney was playing in the 1st half , he was to deep , and he sho
uld have been more upfront. For me man of the match was heskey , did everything right , and supported his hole team!! I think Hesky has answered his critics on why he was there!!Green was very unlucky the way the ball spinned off his glove , but later made a excellent save to make up for it.That could happen to any goal keeper.
As you say though just because the yanks dont know how to say the word football does not mean they dont know how to play.. they have become a very strong side , recently beating Brazil and spain!!

TF_carpcruncherParticipantyour talking more shite I see~think
To be honest I think England have got a great chance of bringing home the world cup…..but they need to be performing for the whole 90 minuites ..not just the 2nd half , which in recent games is exactly what they have done.
Prediction for the final will be an England V Holand final!!

TF_GaryEngland are the 7th or 8th best team in the world. They are not the best (I don’t think any one has claimed they are), but they are in the top 25% of teams in the tournament. As such, they have A CHANCE of winning. Quarter finals would be par, anything worse a disappointment, anything better a great success.
The USA are ranked in the top 20 in the world and are no mugs. A point from that game, with England marginally the better side, particularly in the second half, is not a bad result. I thought we should have got the ball to Lennon a lot more – the full back looked terrified of his pace. Oh, and SWP was useless, as usual.
Roll on Friday!

TF_caster robParticipantHow’s the momentum going Bob?
Quite frighteneing in a way.
Good job we’ve got a decent manager at last, as the players obviously have no shortcomings.
Lets hear it for Captain Squeaky (and his band).

Retaining possession of the round thing would be a start.

Your bloody clueless pal, as are the majority that post about football on here!
I am openly taking the piss out of them, get it now?……probably not. I know what the REAL problem is with this England team , I know about football and I know even more about human behaviour and man management.

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEBob….I think most of us know more about football than that dosey Capello, and the way he makes the 11 “average” players run around like headless chickens. And when they do finally get possesion of the ball, they quickly disperse of it,normally in the wrong direction, cause they do not what the responsibility of using it.Basically they have lost all self belief in themselves and the bloody manager who is making them play in a way which is totally allien to them…..But come on England just play the best you can and qualify for the later stages.~think ~think ~think ~think ~think
