PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERYREPORT
MOLANDS At the start of the week, Molands was fishing very hard with the fish shoaling in some areas, as the week went on, sport improved and by the weekend was fishing well. F1’s and carp provided the bulk of catches with the pellet feeder working best fished right across to the island or just down the shelf on the far side. Punched bread, polony or 4mm hard pellets have been the best baits. The big roach have been showing as well with long pole and caster or waggler and caster accounting to fish to over 1lb. Top pegs are 1, 21 – 31, 43 – 48 and 54 – 58.
GEARYS Gearys is still fishing hard with water temperatures below 4oC for much of the week. There were some signs of improvement with pleasure anglers catching skimmers to 30lb using small cage feeders and maggot or caster on the hook. Just the odd decent carp coming out with bomb and bread fished out to the middle stumps taking fish to double figures. Top pegs 7 – 12, 17 and 30 – 32.
LITTLE GEARYS This pool has fished quite hard during the early part of the week with the low temperatures and clear water. It improved during the weekend with catches to 45lb in the Open but was still a little patchy. A small pellet feeder tight up to the island has been the best tactic with meat or banded pellet on the hook.
GRATUITIES A little patchy this week but plenty of carp to 5lb were caught on bomb and bread tactics or long pole and bread ‘dabbed’ around the swim. The end pegs 1, 8, 9, 15 and 16 have been the best.
WILLOW Willow has been the best pool during the week and lots of F1’s to 3lb are showing and carp to 8lb. Waggler with punched bread or a pellet feeder fished up to the island has been the best tactic with reports of catches to over 40lb this week. Best pegs are 1 – 6.
ANNIVERSARIES For getting bites, Anniversaries has been one of the best pools with skimmers and roach feeding well. Maggot or caster over ground bait or pellet fished on the pole in the open water has been the best approach and silver nets to 30lb have been taken this week. Top pegs 3 – 9 and 21 – 23.
