This event attracted some of the top teams in the country with 24 teams of five competing on Gearys, Molands, Anniversaries, Little Gearys and Willow. All the pools fished well throughout both days averaging around 10lb per angler which made for a fair and very close result. Team winners were Drennan North West who had a two day, 49 points, Kamasan Starlets B finished second with 50.5 points and Maver Barnsley were third on 51.5, seven points separated the top eight teams. Damien Green of ‘Spro’ finished individual champion with four points and weight of 23kg over two days edging out Danny Ashington of Kamasan Starlets who also had four points but 15.750kg in weight. Des ship of Diawa Dorking was third on five points and a 19lb.5 kg weight.
REPORT
MOLANDS The south westerly breeze and much milder weather saw an upturn in sport. The F1’s have settled from pegs 43 – 60 and 1 – 6 and catches to over 60lb were taken in matches on pole and pellet. Along the other areas bream, skimmers and roach have really started to feed well and nets to 40lb of silvers were caught along pegs 10 – 20 with waggler fished maggot on open end feeder and caster or maggot working best on these pegs. The carp are starting to have a go but remain patchy with pegs 1 – 4, 19 – 25 and 58 – 60 giving the best chance of fish up to 10lb and method feeder with dead reds or pellet is working best for them.
GEARYS Nets of skimmers and bream to 30lb is possible from all areas and they have been caught to pole fished pellet or red maggot over ground bait. A lot of anglers practising for the Sensas found that the waggler and red maggot produced better sized bream up to 3lb. Carp are now moving and fish to 7lb in nets to 50lb were reported this week. Pegs 17 – 19 and 27 – 32 have produced the best nets with method and dead red maggot the top tactics.
LITTLE GEARYS Match weights to over 40lb and very consistent back up weights show how fair this pool can be. The wind has been blowing down to the bottom end and pegs 12 – 26 have produced the bigger catches but every peg is capable of good nets of F1’s, carp, tench and skimmers and pole fished pellet close in down the edge or out at 11 – 13 metres has worked best.
GRATUITIES The top end of the pool from pegs 1 – 3 and 11 – 16 has been in the best form. Tench to 6lb, carp to 5lb and crucians have made up the catches with pole fished pellet or a small method feeder and pellet/dead maggot both working well.
