PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY
FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 28/6/09
Last week 227 rods caught 139 fish for an average of 1.63 per rod.
The very hot weather has made sport more difficult over the past week. The fish on Cocks Close are tending to shoal and the main areas where they stay are along the high bank and wires bank.
The best tactics have been to fish small dries such as black Gnat, dry Sedge, Hoppers, or Daddy Long Legs when it is overcast and during the bright spells, black Buzzer, Damsel Nymph, Montana Nymph, Bloodworm and GRHE fished deep.
On the members’ waters Great Pool and Park Meadow are fishing the best and the best fish of the week was an 8lb rainbow caught by Ray Mole of Sutton Coldfield who had three other fish as well and they all came to a GRHE fished on a floating line during an evening session. On Cocks Close, Peter Speed also from Sutton Coldfield had a two fish limit and caught a further six fish to 4lb on Bloodworm. Kevin Brookes and Mr T Williams of Tamworth shared a boat on Great Pool with both of them taking five fish limits with fish to 4lb and a black Buzzer on a floating line was the successful tactic.
Steve Roberts of Birmingham used a small black gold head to take one fish and catch and release six others from a boat on Cocks Close and again his fish went to 4lb.
The fishery will be suspending catch and release on the Day Ticket water (Cocks Close) from 1st July and to compensate, prices will change to £18.00 for five fish and £10.00 for two fish. We will continue to fish on Cocks Close until conditions get too bad and there will be a short close season throughout August up until Saturday 26th September.
