        PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 27/9/09

Last week 148 rods caught 332 fish for an average of 2.24.

The best fish of the week was a very impressive 16lb 11oz rainbow caught by
Mr H Whitby of Tenbury Wells who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close, the fish was taken on a home tied orange Lure on a fast sunk line and it took him over 40 minutes to land. Steve Usher of Stratford caught five fish from a boat on Cocks Close including fish of 7lb 10oz and three others around the 4lb mark and these all came to a white Dancer on a floating line. Mr Hood of Nuneaton caught and released a fish estimated at 12lb along with four other fish and these were taken from a boat on a Damsel Nymph.

On the members’ waters, Gary Cooper of Sutton Coldfield caught five fish from Park Meadow with best at 5lb and these came to a grey Drake on a floating line.

Last week was a little up and down with the best of the fishing being when there was a good ripple on the water. It was quite hard when the water was flat calm. Best tactics have been floating line with a long lead and red or olive Buzzers, Damsel Nymph, Pheasant Tail Nymph, Montana and Bloodworm or intermediate lines with Cats Whisker, black and green Lures, orange Lures and Fritz patterns.

The best areas have been the high bank and the wires bank of Cocks Close but boat anglers have enjoyed the best success on Cocks Close with the fish hanging more towards the middle of the pool. On the members’ waters, Great Pool has been fishing well from the dam end and Park Meadow the far side of the pool is best.

The Fishery is holding its annual ‘Autumn Open’ on Sunday 25th October with tickets at £24.00 to include a two fish ticket and prizes. Contact the telephone number below for further details.
