        PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 24/5/09

Last week 134 rods caught 441 fish for an average of 3.29.

All the pools fished well through the week but sport was affected on Sunday by the hot and bright conditions with catches down on this day. There have been some spectacular rises this week with the evening time seeing massive buzzer and caenis hatches and the fish have been pre-occupied with these, but anglers still enjoyed good success particularly those who fished small imitative patterns on or near the surface.

John Salisbury of Warwick used small Hares Ear Nymph to tempt a 5 fish limit weighing in at 20lb and included the best rainbow of the week at 7lb, John also caught and released a further six fish. Craig Smith of Nuneaton used small dry Hoppers to tempt five fish and release a further four whilst fishing from a boat on Great Pool with his best weighing in at 5lb 2oz and total bag weight was 17lb.

On the members’ waters, Gordon Willett of Redditch caught four fish including three over 4lb from a boat on the Great Pool and these all came to small Buzzers fished on a floating line.

The best flies have been CDC Emergers, Hares Ear, Damsel Nymph, olive or black Buzzer, Shipmans, Klinkhammer, olive Nymph and pearly P T Nymph.

The hotspots have been the wires bank and the roadbank on Cocks Close, around the middle island on Great Pool and the deep water at the dam end of Hall Pool.
