FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 26/5/13

Last week 126 rods caught 384 fish for an average of 3 fish per rod.

It was a real mixture of weather through the week with warm dry conditions followed by winter like conditions. The fishing however has proved very consistent with plenty of fish moving on the top with good hatches of buzzers and olives at the moment. There have been some cracking fish caught with the best fish of the week a 14lb 14oz rainbow taken by Les Benger of Birmingham who was fishing from a boat on the Great Pool and he took it on a green Nymph fished on a floating line. Robert White of Lapworth caught an 11lb 11oz rainbow whilst fishing from the bank of Cocks Close and it was the best of a five fish catch taken on Blobs and Buzzers. Mr L Hancox of Bristol fished from the bank of Cocks Close and he took five fish and released a further four, with his best weighing in at 10lb 4oz. These fell to mixture of flies including orange Fritz Lure, Buzzers and black Gnat. Roger Atkins of Hockley Heath caught a five fish limit from a boat on Park Meadow with his best going 4lb 9oz and these all came to a Damsel Nymph fished on a floating line.

Packington Fly Fishers Club stalwart Harold Pritchett of Mancetter won the Jubilee Cup with a five fish catch beating second place John Salisbury by ounces. Harold caught on black Buzzers and Damsel Nymphs whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close. It was a very tight match with every competitor catching their limits.

Top patterns are CDC Emergers, Buzzers, Dial Bach, Damsel Nymph, Shipmans Buzzer, dry Olive, Pearly P T Nymph and GRHE.

The best areas are the old boat jetty, high bank and middle willows on Cocks Close. On the members’ waters, the hotspots have been at the dam wall end of Hall Pool and around the middle island on Great Pool.

The Fishery is hosting a ‘Fishing for Heroes’ event on the 1st June. Anglers wishing to support this cause will be asked to find sponsorship to the value of £70.00 and the winner of the day will be invited to fish a grand final at Dever Springs later in the year.

The fishery opens at 8am and closes at dusk (9.30pm at the moment).
