FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 17/6/12
Last week 111 rods caught 235 fish for an average of 2.14.
The weather was awful again last week with high winds and rain making fishing very difficult and rod numbers were down again. On the better days it fished quite well with plenty of fish moving on the top and small imitative patterns worked best.
The best fish of the week was a 6lb 2oz rainbow caught by Mr Walker of Coleshill who took it on a white Corixa fished on a floating line and was the best of a four fish catch from a boat on Cocks Close. Mick Hanson of Nuneaton used an orange Montana Nymph to catch three fish including one of 5lb whilst fishing on the Great Pool. Nigel Baskott of Coventry fished the Park Meadow pool from a boat and caught seven fish to
3½ lb using small black Lures.
The Packington Fly Fishers fished against Kirby Fly Fishers on the Great Pool in their annual challenge match. The Packington boys won with 26 fish to 21 with Mark Sturgess taking the biggest bag of five fish for a total of 15lb 14oz.
Henry Winkler aka ‘The Fonz’ had an afternoons fishing on Cocks Close as a means of taking a breather from his ‘My Way Dyslexia’ tour of schools throughout the country. Henry enjoyed good success catching and releasing five fish on a small pearly Wickhams. Happy Days!
The best areas have been the wires banks out to the middle willows on Cocks Close and the dam walls on Great Pool and Park Meadow.
Best patterns are CDC Emerger, Damsel Nymph, black or olive Buzzer, Bloodworm, pearly P T Nymph, pearly Wickhams, Sedge patterns and GRHE.
