        PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 18/10/09

Last week 154 rods caught 496 fish for an average of 3.10.

It was a very good week with most anglers enjoying some success particularly from the boats on Cocks Close.

Ben Foo-Collyer took a 17lb 8oz rainbow whilst fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and this fell to a Cats Whisker on a floating line and took over 20minutes to land. Ben also took a further four fish up to 5lb on similar tactics. Mr P McSheffrey of Birmingham had a 9lb rainbow in a seven fish catch, again from a boat on Cocks Close and these were all caught on a Hares Ear Nymph. Dave Bratby of Birmingham had an estimated 7lb rainbow from the bank of Cocks Close and this was the best of a caught and released catch of seven fish which fell to black Lures on an intermediate line.

On the members’ waters, Ray Martin of Sutton Coldfield had a five fish catch with the best just over 4lb with all of his fish coming to small Damsels or Hares Ear Nymphs.

The best areas on Cocks Close have been the wires bank and high bank with the fish holding at around 40 metres with the best approach from a boat. Bank anglers have caught from various spots with the sand bank and old boat jetty producing well.

The best patterns are Damsel Nymphs, Hares Ears, P T Nymphs, Cats Whiskers, orange Fritz, Nomads and Minkies.

The Fishery is holding its annual ‘Autumn Open’ on Sunday 25th October with tickets at £24.00 to include a two fish ticket and prizes. Contact the telephone number below for further details.
