      Wannabe

I have just returned from a wet white acres where i noticed quite a few anglers had painted there top kits white/light grey. They say it doesn’t spook fish. What do you guys think?

I think it doesn’t work really, because it will still cast a shadow on the water no matter what colour it is, the pole would have to be clear for the fish not to see it.

i think this came from dennis white’s thinking that a herons belly was that colour so it could camoflaugh itself from its prey,if this was true him and every other copycat would b winning every thing would’nt they?As james said any way if u look up towards the sun all you’d see is a dark silloette any way.

A shadow – What ever the colour – A shadow – Just adding weight to your pole tip if you ask me ……..

Shadows are entirely different from silhouettes. It isn’t just herons that are grey, so are battleships and all naval vessels. It is entirely a matter of personal choice but I ahve painted the top kits that I use for fishing up in the water. It certainly doesn’t do any harm apart from the oddd sarcastic comment on the bank but if it helps to put one more fish in the net then it is worth it.

The weight aspect is just a joke! compare a thin coating of paint compared to an ordinary elastic. Yet alone hydro! You notice absolutely no difference with a painted top compared to a standard one.

worth noting that if water is clearish that carp can see from a refracted angle that would include a pole and not just where the shadow falls.

shadows or silhouettes…a fish would still see something there would’nt they, they would’nt see nothing at all!

It’s an interesting debate and who knows who is right or wrong…….. I have not seen any of the top names with it on (other than Dennis of course) but that still proves nothing………. I guess if you believe it works for you then it does ……… Confidence is wonderful thing …….
