Hello Gaz
Fished 4 opens on the Covey Lakes in recent weeks. Most pegs are on average 11-13 metres wide. Depth wise around 2ft close in to the bank on both sides. Deepest water around 5 metres which then starts to shelve up towards the far bank, so the deepest water is closest to you around 6 ft I would say. Plumbing up around the peg you will notice that the shelves are quite steep, so you have to be careful placing your rig etc. However fishing up a slope can be a good tactic, especially with a heavy bait such as sweetcorn, as the bait will pull the float under if it is not resting on the bottom. I have not fished any of the older match lakes recently, but I think the canal type lakes are dug in a similar way. Hopefully more replies to your post will help.
There have been some good weights lately and the fish are more spread out, but there are still some poor pegs as I found out on Sunday. Ha.
Hope this helps a bit, Tight lines.
