TF_MatchcarpFishing well – Meat fished shallow over pellet loose feed working – Corn short around 5 mts working – Straight lead meat or corn working. That’s it all you have to do then is draw on fish…….

keith mCheers Matchcarp,
What are the better pegs? or is it wind dependant? -

adam1Participantpellet shallow if your on fish is the main method, start down the edge for 5 minuets just feed a kinder pot of hemp and cron with double corn on the hook you can normally nick a lump straight away
then move to 5-6 meters feding corn and hemp again on 2 lines just kinder potting again. at the start pot in a big ot of hemp and 6mm pellets at 14.5 meters leave it to settle 15 mins then start loose feeding 3-5 pellets every 20 seconds, leave your long line to settle for 40 mins then go on it, if you ve drawn on a few fish you sould catch them shallow, if your not catching start feeding pellets as far as you can and fish a bomb over it, if you catch well on the bomb but nothing shallow then stopf eeding shallow because you only have 1.5 pints of pellets and you can keep feeding both lines properly.
keep feeding corn and hem down the side all match by hand and it can eb worth some lumps last hour -

TF_MatchcarpVery wind dependant, always has been ………… A good draw will be around peg 8 or 25 on the other bank……… The ends of the lake hold less and less fish as the temperature drops…. Adams advice is spot on though I am assuming you will be peg for peg and if so I don’t fancy your margins to work … You might get a bite there in the last hour but try by all means ……If the float goes as Adam says it will almost certainly be a lump…..

adam1Participantyep peg for peg and you wont catch so well down the edge, its still worth a go because there is alot fo fish down the side at the minute and you will still catch 1 or 2 but not catch like you will with an empty peg, if you have a spare id properbly fish down the side for all of the last hour if you dont have a spare peg then just keep dropping on for 2 minuets if you dont get a bite come back of it again
far bank of partridge has been ebst in recent weeks, especially for catching close, i think its something to do with the other bank being shaded by trees from the sun and the far bank egtting alot of sun, now its cold they like it where its warmer. 22-25 ar always consistent but with a wind blowing down the other end the majority of that bank would be good, if you can leave pegs out id reccomend leaving corners out or putting the corners in but leaving the next peg out to give some room, corners are terrible lately untill the last hour if theres some one next to you
i drew partridge 18 and 19 last week (opposite corners to each other ) on 18 i didnt have a bite for 4 hours then caught 30 lb last hour and on 19 struggled for a bite most of the day till the last hour and a half then caught 10 lumps last hour and a half for 70 lb
im there this saturday so will let you know how it fishes -

TF_scarfIf you two Woodlands regulars (Matchcarp and adam1) or any others are about I’d really appreciate your opinions on how I should approach Dragonfly this Sunday, now that the frosts are here. I presume it means that feed should be minimal, or not at all. But as it’s four years since I last fished it I’d be grateful for any advice you could give.
Cheers

TF_Glenn ArcherWednesday open best weight was 40lb off Partridge.
Partridge fished rock hard Thursday for our club match.
50 lb won, peg 4, shallow (pellet I think). Next best 30 lb, 25lb, etc. Most fish caught in low or high numbers. Small carp were caught around peg 20s.
I caught 25lb off peg 10, 4 decent carp at 6.5 metres on corn, nothing shallow at 13m, odd skimmer / tench on corn at 6 / 13m on deck. Nothing on pellet, meat. Roach on maggot.
Very cold on low numbered side of partridge (1..17) with the trees behind, whilst the other side was basking in sunshine.
Skylark fished very well, 70 odd lb won with 60 and 50lb backup weights. Worm caught a few fish on the pole, whilst the bomb with meat (I think) was the winning method.

TF_Glenn Archerforgot to mention, out of the 4 carp, I caught 3 of them in the last 30 minutes. Typical Woodlands.

TF_MatchcarpI don’t really know much ……..The corners normally dominate I think ……. There are no where near as many Carp in the lake as Partridge …… So I would suggest an approach that will catch anything that swims……I wouldn’t go too fine though, there are plenty of Barbel and quality silvers to be had..Corn isn’t too selective as a bait and if you fish it conjunction with caster you can work between the two as hook bait maybe using a T808 hook in a size 18 to 0.14 dia line……Apart from that I can’t give you accurate up to date information, sorry.
A practice session would have been the answer but I guess you can’t make that…. -

adam1Participantsat and watched my dad on partridge on wedensdays open (i finished uni too late to fish) he won the lake with 56 lb, 5 fish down the side and 6 small ones on the bomb and pellet, opposite him ha 53 lb all at 6 meters, it was far too windy to even half present it on then pole but there was laodsa of signs on my dads tip so i think he would have caught shallow if he could have fished it, even though partridge fished hard on wedensday it seemed very even on the near bank with only 3 people weighing in under 40 (althought one of them had 38lb) l, the far bank was a bit harder 19-28 ish seemed the same as the other bank then the wieghts dropped off.
still dont think id fish much differently but i wouldnt feed to catch shallow long id cup pellets and corn in and plan to fish deep but have a shallow rig set up incase they want to be up. skylark and curler fished much better than partridge, 78 lb won the match off curlew (corn short and down the side) there was a 72 lb off skylark 5 (corn short) 71 lb off skylark 7 (bomb) and 71 lb off skylark 28 (corn short)as for dragonfly if you can reach the island with a pole id fish corn across to the island feeding very little just 3 or 4 pieces every drop in, if your on some carp you ll catch them across, look for about 2″ of water to fish in, like matchcarp says its full of silvers id properbly fish corn and pellets feeding micros and a few bits of corn at 11 meters and alternating corn and 4mm expanders on the hook to catch skimmers
you can catch alot of roach rudd and ide close in on just a top kit or top kit+1 and these can be caught very quicky (i ve seen 70 lb weights of them)make sure you use an elastic soft enough for the skimmers but strong enough to handle a carp, id fish a 10 latex or white hydro to 0.14/0.12 and an 18 808

keith mJust a quick thanks to Adam, Matchcarp & Glenn for your help.
It fished hard (must be winter conditions)50lb odd won (peg 27ish) 38lb odd 2nd (peg 29ish) 3rd 28lb odd peg 4 & 4th (me 🙂 25lb odd (peg 21).
The winner fished at 6mtrs on corn over hemp.I caught same plus pellet over pellet on bomb. Not sure about the others.
The cold bank fished really hard with 15lb enough for sections. Most fish were caught after the sun burnt through after 1 oclock.(kin freezing on “warm” bank until 1 oclockish)! -
