i am just about to make up some paste rigs the floats i am using have bristles about 2ins long, how much of this do you leave showing when shotting up the rigs.i have tried leaving all the bristle showing and dotting it right down with much the same results lots of missed bites,i know this all part of paste fishing but i would like to know the best set up i understand this depends on conditions on the day but what is agood starting point.cheers.

As long as the weight of the paste registers and the shoulder of the float is below the water line, i’m happy. remember the bites on this method are not the tips & taps of squatt fishing. Don’t hit anything unless it flies under fairly quickly. Normally anything else will be a liner, and even some of the “obvious bites may be, too. You just have to work at it on the day to get the presentation and timing right.

a longer tip is always better so you dont strike at the linners, but if theres a lot of f1’s then dot it down a bit
