After fishing a match yesterday I was convinced I could have finished in the money if I’d fished short and shallow with paste, its not a method I’ve tried before but I’m convinced it can work on this water can anyone give me any pointers, floats, hooks, feeding etc.

I’ve fished paste shallow a lot while feeding pellets little and very often as you would normal shallow fishing. you can also feed small balls of groundbait that breaks up on impact with the water.

I use quite a dry mix of ground pellet so it melts off the hook and leaves a good trail to draw the fish to the main bait, you can use a bare hook or mold it round a hair rigged pellet.

Float wise obviously I use one of my own and the XT Dibber is ideal with enough buoyancy to hold up a ball of paste.

I like to fish 2 blobs as my float when fishing paste shallow. The weight of the paste will make them stand one on top of t’other but one the paste comes off, they will both lay on the surface. then its time to rebait. The boyancy also means the fish often hook them selves or result in unmissable bites.
