I am still using and loving my Shaky Mach 3 11 footers but am wondering if anything better is out there. I know Fred pushed some rods last year which were a steal at £35,
Since then I know Daiwa have some PW rods out along with a new tournament range of two piece rods.
Anything worth changing for, my existing rods have been well used?

I’ve never used the Shakys, but got my hands on a Middy X-Flex 4G last summer and have been very impressed. Nice and light and crisp with a good recovery and a lovely forgiving through action with plenty of beef when you need it. Has easily tamed decent sized doubles on 6lb line and kept fish out of lily beds. Great action under the rod tip prevents hook pulls.

I think I paid £60, so won’t break the bank and I’m sure you can get them cheaper now.

I also waggled a Garbo Mayhem PW in a shop and it seemed like a slimmer blank and lighter in the hand but not having them side by side makes the comparison a little difficult. Had I not already got the Middy, I probably would have bought it.

Thank you, I seem to recall the rods Fred recommended were Browning Force, a 11 footer was about £35. I bought a pair for my son for a birthday present but he does not get out much these days so not really had chance to put them through a rigorous testing.

I use the browning that fred was on about and it was the force pellet waggler 2 …. Great bit of kit and caught a lot of big fish on it ..tried to get another but cant find them anywhere but if you can they are well worth the money

John H. I spoke to you last thursday when you were practising on Uglies, without realising! Have a look at the Tri-cast splash waggler or pellet waggler rods. The splash wag has an extension & has a really powerful action.
                Regards Peter.

Hi Peter, which one were you? There were a number around some fishing some not.
Had a great session BTW on the wag and down the edge. Same again on Tuesday this week.
Got to be the best in the country by some margin, Roy was behind me Tuesday worrying about what he has created, 400lb almost winning on lake 1 and some matches averaging over 100lb per angler!!
These in the main are competent clubbies not names.
Will have a look at the Tri cast rod you suggest..

I was the big Londoner who was fishing the pole up in the water. The others were there just to annoy me!! I fished Lake 1 on tuesday & had 67 fish, superb fishing. I think you may have recommended “Pat’s Cafe” & took the advice, it was excllent!!
                    Regards Peter.

Peter, yes I remember, I was the guy unloading the grey Range Rover and you commented on the amount of gear being enough for a week.
Good tip on the rod, I like the extension idea as I carry two 13 foot rods in case I need them as well as the Mach 3. Using the Tricast I can cover both options.
