what are the best loaded or unloaded

IMO it depends if you can feather them down well. If you can loaded seem to cast better for me but you risk them diving deep and settling slowly when you get it slightly wrong.

Unloaded seem to settle faster and amke a better splash but don’t cast as well so when you are getting instant bites its unloaded for me.

I have just started using and been well impressed with the Steve Mayo adapters, not cheap but found they are a good balance between the two options – maybe one day I’ll have the confidence to just carry one type!! Top tip though you need to glue the adapters below 3SSG, stops you coming back with adapter and no float!

I wouldn’t use a loaded wag myself for fishing shallow, it dosen’t matter how you feather the float down the loaded will always dive deeper.

You can’t beat floats made of styrofoam!

              or balsa…

Balsa is OK if you make your own and use the light stuff, but a lot of floats are made of heavy denser balsa and they still dive slightly more than a styro.

I have not used one Steve Mayo adapters. They should be fine though as recently I have been using the Perry Stone ones they sell at Gold Valley that look similar and are rated at 3SSG and 4SSG.

I like the BigH Perfect Loaded Pellet waggs which is the main reason I don’t make any to sell. For me they are better than unloaded as I can change float size in seconds, cast more accurately and they are all perfectly weighted needing no shot on the line at all. They do not dive under and are fishing as soon as they hit the water.
