TF_cookiescatchhi all, i know the feeding is most important when pellet wag fishing but do you think the colour of your float has any effect? i have used clear ‘puddle chuckers’ ,blue whiteacres and black middy ploppers but cant see a difference .what do you guys think~?

TF_SelfeyI make pellet wags for Ray Hayward and Mark Illingsworth who are both top pellet wag anglers and Ray sent me some horrible pea green paint to finnish his wags in as they would match the water colour at Viaduct so I would say without doubt yes

TF_baitchefParticipantIt might make a difference, but the truth is you will never really be 100% certain either way and that’s fishing. If you have lost your confidence in a particular colour then its best you don’t use them in any matches until you’ve got your confidence back. Otherwise it will always be nagging you and you wont get the best out of it.

TF_cookiescatchi havnt lost confidence in a certain colour but am just trying to fine tune the method before the summer club matches start.

TF_baitchefParticipantOriginally we used the black ones made by ‘topper’ Haskins and as we were fishing for relatively juvenile fish, colour didn’t really matter. However fish definitely wise up so it might be an idea to find out what float is particularly popular on the ponds you intend to fish.

TF_baitchefParticipantThen again it might be better to use something completely different.lol

TF_cookiescatchi know the colour red has been mentioned in the past but are certain colours less visible to carp??? does a clear puddle chucher reflect the light??

TF_baitchefParticipantPersonally I have no idea. I make my own pellet wags from balsa and use clear varnish, so essentially they look like a bit of wood. Thinking about it, they are probably as neutral as you can get.

TF_dave brittainWhen I first started making my own Styros, (sky blue), I did wonder if it would make any difference compared to the black toppers or pea green drakes that I used.
It didn’t seem affect my catch rate or anybody’s who used them including some very good anglers.

TF_dave brittainStu.
I won’t be making the floats again as it’s to much hastle for me as I don’t get the time but I will be selling my lathe, extractor, saw drills and enough styro to make 1000’s of floats but buyer will have to collect at the end of April when I’m back on Holiday, (Wife wants the garage cleared).
Will be looking for £300 for the lot
