Hi, Have been matchfishing for the past 4-5 years and have all the gear; poles,feeder/waggler rods and a barbel combo for bigger match carp. One of my sons has now shown an interest in fishing for bigger harder fighting fish like carp over 20ib and pike, so i’m gonna buy some new gear. My knowledge of this side of fishing is limited to say the least but i know i’m gonna need amongst other things a carp/pike rod, if such a thing exists, a baitrunner and a bite alarm. Any suggestions, not looking at breaking the bank but believe in buying half decent kit.

        Cheers.

How much money you looking at spending? £100 will get you a decent rod ‘n’ reel combo, Shimano were doing a combo for that money (if they are still available) and you wouldn’t go far wrong with one of those.

As for bite alarms, go for a known make else they don’t last long (my mate kept buying cheapo’s and went through them like nobody’s business) but Fox do some for about £20 which would be worth a look at.
