Pikey’s Glebe Charity Match – Update

Chaps, Just a quick update on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th August.

Due to a cock up by me (you’ll all be old one day) THURSDAYS match will be 27 Pegs on Mallory Park Big Lake – which Roy and Sconee assure me is fishing it’s nuts off and 20 pegs (or less if anyone drops out) on Lakes 6 and 7 at the Glebe.

The draw will be at The Glebe at 10.30am with fishing from 12-6pm. Tickets will be £20 (£10 Pools, which will be paid out for sections) and £10 Day ticket

FRIDAY – Nothing has changed, the draw will be 9am at The Glebe with fishing from 11-5pm.

We will have approx 60 pegs on Lakes 1,4,5,6 and 7 – so a bit of room for everyone.

IN ADDITION TO A LOAD OF FLOATS KINDLY DONATED BY SOME OF THE COUNTRIES BEST FLOAT MAKERS, I HAVE ALSO BEEN PROMISED SOME RAFFLE PRIZES FROM ROY.

HOWEVER, WHILST IT IS NOT COMPULSORY, IF ANYONE WANTS TO BRING A RAFFLE PRIZE THEY WILL BE GRATEFULLY ACCEPTED.

IF ANYONE IS GOING TO CANCEL FOR EITHER DAY THEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW ASAP AS I WILL NEED TO GET ROY TO ADJUST THE PEGGING – THANKS

Mallory Big Lake?

Hmmm….only ever been the Glebe twice so already pools fodder, any “serious” tips for a Big Lake virgin or does it all get too serious, looking forward to the craic as much as the fishing!

Is it the same baits and tactics as 1,4,5,6,7 ie corn,hemp,pellet n paste jobbie or more like Uglies….the website says its full of hippocrocopigs….sorry doubles!!

The following was posted by Glebe 1 on the MFS site.

Not fished the big lake for a while but it can be a bit moody, sometimes they have it and go mad, there was a massive weight on there last year one of the members had knocking 270lb if i remember right, other times 70lb is a good weight.

Theres some of the old fish still in there, big uns that look 12lb plus but there hollow and dont weigh that much,A few years ago Roy put a load of new fish in and they would probably be 2/3lb now.

Last peg on Gerrards bend is a flyer just watch your back for wheels e.t.c
The 2 pegs either side of the island can be flyers.

You will need a margin line thats where the munters usually turn up, you will more than likely see them before you chuck your nets in and its worth chucking a handfull of bait in at the start and having 10 mins on that before you do anything else, quite a few times ive put 40lb in the net in the first half hour then struggled for a couple of hours like everyone else, it can give you a good head start.

13m plus line
Feeder line, but be prepared not to catch on it, it just doesnt seem to work like it used to

Its shallow between 3 and 5 foot depending on the level

Theres a good head of skimmers too so dont disregard them

12 of us fished today and it was a bit out of sorts, very calm with a lot of fish cruising. we had to leave out the pegs that are on the far side of the island because of the rallying, so we fished 1 to 6 on the grass bank and the evens from peg 20 down. peg 1 won on grass bank with 226 lbs of proper carps. i had 92lbs for 2nd on that bank, peg 4, 6 carp, 50lbs of 2lbs carp and 20lb of silvers there was a 90lbs and 88lbs. the other bank was won from the end peg 20 with 145lbs with 144lbs and a couple of tons behind. most caught on corn having to fish longer at 11mtrs rather than the usual 4mtrs. feeder wasnt very productive!

Just cooked 22 pints of hemp. Bought 35 tins of corn. ASDA are now out of corn, lol. I,ve also got 20+ pints of pellets 4s, 6s and 8 mils plus expanders. Ground bait and my paste mix. Have i got enough bait? Going to take me 3 hours to get it all to my peg before i start building my own island! lol
