I’ve just bought some new rollers, and put a lot of thought into what I wanted.
For me it’s flat rollers all the way. I don’t like the fact that in a wind your pole can blow up the side of a ‘V’ roller, and back down again. I also think that tripod supports are less stable than four legged varieties.
I have three Boss/Daiwa rollers which I’ll continue to use on my local rivers. I like the double rollers, and they’re light and easy to carry on long walks. On natural venues where you can push the legs into the ground they’re really good. On commercials, with hardcore banks/paths etc behind you, they’re prone to collapsing in the wind.
Anyway, the ones I could look at were the Maver, the Matrix, and the Preston.
The gents in the shop told me they’d had several of the Maver ones returned. The push button locking mechanism breaks apparently.
That left the Matrix and Preston. I bought three Preston XL flatbeds. The ‘v’ of the legs spreads wider than the matrix, so I figured they’d be more stable if i hit them with the end of the pole shipping back.
I’ve never had even a hint of them blowing over in a wind, and have got to say I’m well pleased with them.
Hope this helps.
