Presentation of floating Pellet

This weekend I was feeding to carp that were hoovering up every available pellet I fed,all except the ones with my hook !! I did catch some but not enougth,I watched the majority of fish take the pellet in their mouths and most of the time spit the pellet out,I tried with a bait band,I also had some prepared with a small piece of rubber band,superglued on still not enougth bites,can any body shed some light on what is the best method to present the pellet in this type of fishing,Im’e obviouly doing something wrong….cheers
