TF_punchcrumbHI anyone else read the Angling times revelation about an alleged move towards a new licencing system based on a one size fits all fee covering the angler for up to three rods, any thoughts?
Apparently the view of KA The Angling times Television top fishing commentator Is that this system wont work, and he is suggesting a one off fee of say £25 and £10 a rod up to a maximum of four rods.
What planet Is he on ? surely a move like this would be welcomed by the majority subject to the cost not being an issue and not a move to make more money from anglers.
I cannot see where KA is coming from on this one maybe its time he moved on and handed over to someone younger who has a more up to date outlook on angling In our ever changing world instead of living In the past.By the way I am not a carp angler but I do occasionaly put two rods out whilst pleasure fishing and this suggestion would do away with the need too keep looking over your shoulder shoud you be tempted to have a dabble down the edge with a whip whilst Its a bit slow on your two feeder rods.
I did buy two licences one season when I was trying out carp fishing a fad that lasted but a short while but each to there own I say and now I mainly pleasure fish and do the odd small match when the fancy takes me.Regards The Crumb

AnonymousI think if they allow 3 rods on 1 licence and keep the amount the same think of the monie they would lose maybe that’s where kieth is coming from or we will all have to pay more

TF_caster robParticipantDon’t read the journals but Keith’s suggestion of paying more if you use more rods is fairer and more logical than charging an increased flat fee for those that have no intention of using more than one – that’s starting to go the way of the TV tax.
If licenses are to be tailored to individual usage maybe a 9 month issue going on sale 2nd week of June at 75% cost could be made available for river anglers – except for Bob James!

TF_geepsterParticipantDoes anyone know where the whole business of three rods came from – obviously carp fishing but was it out of practicality for the angler or was it out of trying to get anglers to buy more tackle. Either way it sounds a bit like a case of the tail wagging the dog to me. Anyone know how it works overseas eg Belgium, holland, france where there is carp fishing, pleasure fishing and match fishing like here?

I have fished two rods on venues that are not commercial fisheries and had to throw one up the bank as i could not cope with the number of bites.
But there are also a lot of natural venues that require two rod use due to there obvious decline.
Obviously everyone tends to equate the two and three rod trend with carp angling, but lets be fair unless you fish the commercials there are many venues where fishing one rod can be a fair bet for increasing your chance of a blank.
Match anglers are traditionaly only allowed to use one rod at a time. but lets not allow this idea to be influenced by personal preference otherwise it will develop into another match v carp v pleasure v game fishing issue.
Surely In todays gloom and doom climate Anglers need to unite as much as possible there are many more serious threats to the sport than having the option to fish up to three rods on one licence and I am sure we are all well aware of what they are.
I cannot recall any objections being voiced when the EA introduced the two rods on the one licence rule so why take a step backwards now by being negative about a three rod licence. -

TF_GavinPersonally I think adding a lesser “extra” fee on top of a two-rod licence is a good idea, as opposed to an extra licence for every extra rod when the first one covers you for two.I think for a start more people would be inclined to pay it rather than chance it, as I know many do! I do also think it should be capped at three rods mind – there really can be no need for four rods, and the hazards of so many rods in one space would be a complete pain. If they’re far apart enough that they’re not then you can’t possibly be close enough to them all to be in control of them!
I don’t think cutting the existing licence to one rod would work – most pleasure anglers I know / see (and they far out number match anglers) fish with two rods on most venues. Plus a fair few match anglers (me included) dabble in a bit of speci fishing.

TF_Kagger TNBIMO, a licence should be for the angler, not the number of rods they use.
There should be restrictions on the number of rods used, but to my mind charging extra for extra rods is just a money making scam.
…and although I’ve dabbled in speci hunting in the past, I dont any more. These days its just one rod, whether its on a match or pleasure fishing.

AnonymousIm thinking the argument is that some anglers dont want to pay the full price for using more than 2 rods. Namely, those anglers who want to use 3 rods. If thats ok. Then, how about a cheaper rod licence for all us anglers who only want to use just one rod at a time? If a licence for 2 rods is £25 and to add a licence of £10 for another rod. Why not simply charge £15 for a licence for each rod that the angler wishes to use? This would mean a cheaper rod liecence for us few anglers who use only one rod. A little more expensive at £30 for those who wish to use 2 rods However, it would be £5 cheaper at £45 for those who wish to use the 3 rods that is being suggested. Also, the same £45 licence fee that is being suggested in AT. The one thing i dont want to see is a rod licence costing more but covering any number of rods as this would not be fair to anglers who never use more than one rod at a time!
