Don’t know if any of you are aware or even interested, but Cambridge Utd’ Jez George is currently undertaking a 410 mile sponsered walk, visiting various non-league clubs, whom have lost their youth development funding.

If you would like to learn more about why he is doing this(could be for your childs future in football)or would like to sign the petition underway, please vist:

My son is part of Cambridge Utd’s Centre of Excellence,he has a brilliant time,is an excellent footballer & would really appreciate your signature.

        Thanks Lads

Please keep the signatures going in lads.

This does not only centre around Cambridge Utd.

It could happen to your club someday!

Players that have come through various Centres include David Platt,Michael Owen,Danny Murphy,Dion Dublin,Jack Collison,Dave Kitson etc…..

CUFC need your support for English Football.

Decaff, sorry mate but I won’t be signing as I don’t see why Conference clubs and above should get funding for development when all they do is cherry pick the lower league clubs [like the one I’m secretary of] and basically s**t all over us because you can’t tie youngsters down with contracts. If the pro clubs weren’t living beyond their means and could see past the end of their noses they would know that they should be investing their money in development instead of paying vastly over-rated foreign players to swamp our leagues at every level!

I cannot pretend to be an expert on this, but I have to say, prima facie, I am inclined to agree with Steve R.

I also am no expert on this, but my son has a talent, which if nutured in the correct way & of course if he wishes to continue, could not posssibly be fulfilled playing football at a lower level.I’m sorry if that offends but that is the truth. In all sports, people find their level.

Steve r,i sympathise with you & i’m sure it feels like you are being s**t on,in fact my sons first team almost folded when he was approached by Cambridge, but the truth is He was that team & playing for them was doing him no favours. Now tell me,if he & thousands of others like him, stay with teams such as yours, what happens to them,do they fulfil their talent, do they stay at that level or are they lost to the game entirely? I don’t know, but the tree has to grow somewhere, whether we like it or not.

I do find your point slightly muddled as this is about Youth development in this country & contracts for players or have i missed something ?
