QM1 hooks

Hi guys

Fished a match at the weekend and had made up some hair rigs with QM1 hooks from guru as i had read about ther hook hold.
After a hour had my 1st bite, tipped wrapped round, and 1st carp on
after maybe 10 seconds of playing the fish the hook slipped out!!!
never thought anything of it and carried on, half hour later another fish on, again, on for 10 seconds and another hook slipped out and another lost fish.
at which point i changed back to PR36 hooks and landed 2 more carp with out bother

its kinda knocked my confidance in these QM1 hooks, was it just me been unlucky or has anyone else found they loose fish>?

i will try them again but during a pleasure session

personally i have only praise for them…. i cant actually recall a hook pull since iv started using them

i was using the size 18 on 0.14 line

Like i say i will try them again soon but just wondered if anyone else had the same probs

i used the for te first time sunday. cant knock them. although very fidily and sharp!

I’ve not lost a fish when I’ve used them, can’t say I’ve caught that much lately mind to test them!

I have been using the QM1 hooks for a while now and it’s my number one choice on the tip, it’s always worth playing around with the hair length as this can effect hook holds, if possible keep the hair short as I have found them to work extremely well when tied up like this. Since I started using these I can honestly say I have not lost many fish and feel 100% confident of landing every fish I hook.

I’ve used them since they came out and have never had a problem. I’ll be using them from now on for all my feeder and lead work ( unless I’m at somewhere like Sherwood where you can be chucking to lilly beds when it’ll be Fox extra strong).

I wish you could buy them in bulk packs to keep cost down a bit but whatever they cost i would still use them as I have that much confidence in them

I find the larger sizes 14’s 12’s far better than anything smaller. Because of the turned in points the gape of these hooks is much smaller than on a “conventional” pattern and having lost a lot of fish on 16’s and 18’s I have reverted to my trusty Kammy Animal spades in anything less than 14’s. In favour of the QM1’s they ARE very strong and sharp but I won’t use them in small sizes.

Same here no problem – fantastic hook, total confidense in them – I agree with someone elses comments about hair length and 0.14 is a bit light and maybe your bait was wafting around a bit – nail it with at least 0.16 ……..

Ive never had issues with them either. I think they are superb hooks and are my first choice when using a hair rig on the tip.

I agree with Hillbilly. In the small sizes they do seem to fall out and when I spoke to Alex Bones about it he said use them in the larger sizes. I am not saying that the smaller sizes don’t work, but they don’t for me. I am another who uses Animals in the smaller sizes, although I use the eyed version.

never use less than a 16 myself and usually a 14 or 12, not convinced it makes a difference.
0.14 and even 0.16 seems a bit light to me, asking to get cracked off. I use 0.22 on the method all the time and never less than 0.20 on the lead as it’s nailed to the bottom (with a couple of stotz). (might consider 0.18 for popping up bread.)

I think it may be better to fish heavier and camouflage the hook length and hook. More chance of getting out what you hook.

I had exactly the same problem losing fish after they had been on the hook for a few seconds. I lightened the feeder elastic and this seemed to work.Ihave tried the hooks when fishing the pole and I know they are not really for this but I found them to be good and I did not lose any fish. I think I will give them a fair go before I really make up my mind.

i dont like the 18 and 16 get alot more fish loss than normal… i stick with the pr36 and they are fine…

Have been using them over here for a while now and can’t recall losing a fish on them yet on the method feeder..
Last week after a very frustrating hour fishing paste and missing bites, after trying a few different hook patterns and sizes I tied one on the paste rig and had a fish almost every put in after….most were just ripping the elastic out of the pole.
Has anyone else tried them with paste on the pole ?
