The clear water conditions provided opening day with plenty of exciting sport for anglers particularly those enjoying their first outing of the new season and despite the cold north easterly winds.
There were plenty of rods bending with excellent quality fish to most bank areas particularly Lodge Bank,Caravan Corner,Willow Bay,Addington Road and Mill Corner giving a good indication of the spread of fish this early in the season.
Pick of the bank anglers on opening day was Steve West from Irthlingborough who took 11 rainbows to 5lb 4oz on a green body goldhead on a floating line.Mr Sharp and son Jamie from Northampton were the pick of the boat anglers on opening day with their limit of 10 fish to 5lb 8oz mostly caught on Cats whisker with son Jamie having the best fish of the catch.
Another father and son team Phil and Gene Robinson regular season ticket holders from Raunds excelled on their first outing on Saturday with 15 rainbows in their catch&release haul which included fish all exceeding 3lb with the best estimated at 8lb all mostly caught on Cats Whisker below the bung on floating lines at a depth of 5 feet.
        Best Patterns:GH Cats Whisker,Black&Green Tadpole,Montana,Orange Fritz GH,GH Damsel.
        Best Areas:Bank-Lodge Bank/Platforms,Caravan Bank,Sandbank,Willow Bay,Mill Corner.
        :Boat-Lodge Frontage,Willow Bay,Caravan Bay,Mill Corner,Deeps.
Prospects for the coming week look promising with the onset of some warmer spring weather and the continued weekly stocking of more of the excellent rainbows seen caught during opening weekend.
Water conditions and levels are very good giving boat and bank anglers the prospects of some lively sport.
