A cold wet start on opening day, Tuesday 1st March did not stop 21 intrepid anglers battle with difficult conditions which produced sporadic sport in the morning with some notable exceptions with one of our regulars bagging up by 10am, Phil Koris from Bedford.
Mick Sharpe from Northampton, found the boat fishing against the north shore catching and releasing 50 fish keeping 5 x 5 pounders.
Scott Bowman from Northampton, caught the largest at 9.9lbs in Willow Bay on a Black Buzzer. I witnessed the battle and took some photos of the lovely fish, a lovely conditioned fish that took him down to the backing in one long run battling hard.
Meanwhile, Nigel Cheetham from Oundle, caught and returned a grown-on rainbow at 8.5lbs on the Addington Road bank.
Although the morning was hard, by afternoon the weather had improved and most anglers stayed on to catch their limits.
Nymphs did really well, Nymphs, Lures and Blobs were the patterns of the day.
A notable catch this week was by a beginner, Andy Godfrey from Peterborough, caught a 4.2lb rainbow which led him a merry dance.
I supplied the complementary, Iain Barr fly which was a Green & White tadpole.
The lake is currently gin clear and weed free.
Our boat fleet of 14, have had a complete refurbish over the winter months.
The Tagged fish competition is still ongoing from last year and the kitty is standing at almost £500.
Rosemary and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our regulars and would particularly encourage beginners and other fly fisherman who have not previously been tempted by our beautiful fishery to come and visit.
