AnonymousApologies, if this has been discussed elsewhere.
I am looking to upgrade my current seat box and have been looking at the Rive D36 (Good box, rather expensive!), The Preston Absolute Station and also the Colmic The One box.
It would be good and much appreciated if owners of these boxes, or anyone else in the know, would let their views on the Pro’s and Con’s of the above boxes, any known design faults, price of extra units etc.

TF_Terrence22D36. Expensive but a investment. Bad parts. Can only use rive attachments as they have 36mm legs. Drawers stick! Handles snap off!
Preston box, welds are crap! Really heavy
Comic, never seen one.

TF_carpa22ParticipantMate of mine had the new Preston Absolute box returned it after 2 weeks, as Terrence said poorly welded parts, footplate fell apart draw clips flying everywhere, got a Matrix instead.

TF_dunnoIm happy enough with my rive d36 which I bought 4 years ago and hasn’t let me down.
If you are buying a rive then you have to get it from France pecheur.com It a no brainer. 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂If you want a Colmic

TF_mp.miloIve got an Absolute, changed from a rive d25 . Not had any problems with mine at all , i know another 8/9 lads that have them with no problems. The welds are no different to my Rive. The box itself is rock solid, the frame is solid, the clips are a bit stiff when first puchased but ease up with use, seats comfortable and the drawers and trays are spacious enough for most. The preston attachments fit without inserts 30mm legs.. Supplied with a shoulder strap and a removable footplate if travelling 2 to a car and you need to save on space.
They are a heavy box,no doubt about that, but its no heavier than my rive and a milo m800 i had. Worth a look. -

TF_RhinoAnother option for you is the siwi quad box. Well made and 14lb lighter than the equivalent rive. 30mm legs so Preston and colmic stuff fits.

TF_gaz rgotta agree the quadbox is exellent , had rive d36, octbox. matrix ,daiwa 300 etc and this is the best imo, the matrix is also good but its big 2 get in car etc and the footplate was a nitemare.

TF_stonecoldHad my preston for month or so now, brilliant. Yes it is fairly heavy but the rive is too as is the colmic.
A Freind had colmic n got rid as was TOO heavy.
Clips on absolute take bit getting used too but it is solid as a rock -

Another vote for the Quad box.More comfy than a rive and also much quicker to get level than the rive.

TF_Gordon BennettI own absolute. I had 2 months. Still winds me up. Broke floats opening draw. Clips are a nightmare. Legs slip. Forever putting water seal back in trays. Wish I got matrix station. I had fox msb before and it was faultless.

TF_waveydavey21Have to agree. I bought a Matrix in August and I am well pleased. Not sure what the issue is that some people have with the footplate, it is tight fit but if you spray it with a silicone spray it works a dream.

AnonymousAm I missing something here? I’ve been using a £250 MatchBox S series for 4 years and never had any of the problems associated with these super expensive boxes. Has anybody actually looked at some of the cheaper boxes arounding or is it a case of getting one cos that what everyone else has?

TF_PERRY915Airon one colmic is only 399 and comes with loads of attachments free of charge! Or the slightly cheaper colmic box the sx550 at only 265 is a great box for those that don’t wanna break the bank! Both hard to beat for the money/quality

TF_Martin25664When you are paying over £600 for a seat box you should be considering what it will be worth in a couple of years when you go to sell it.
I have seen some of the early Rive D36 HSP selling recently for more than they cost when new and the price is still going up fast.
Can’t imagine the Colmic or the Preston holding on to their price after a couple of years. -

TF_Martin25664The ST8 is the best value Rive D36 if you want one.

If you cant afford Rive attachments the new Matrix ones fit a 36 leg
