I have a Rive RX with the older divided pole cushion and I’m considering changing it. The foam inside the cushion flattens after an hour and feels like I’m sitting on the plywood that the cushion’s stapled to. It’s fine when left for a while and it will regain it’s normal shape but just isn’t comfortable for a full 5 hours.

What’s anyones verdict on the solid foam heal cushions? Comfortable or has everyone upgraded them to the newer leather cushions?

I’ve seen the handmade Rive cushions on eBay but don’t know if they’d have any advantage over the cushion I have at the moment.

          David,

I have the solid foam type rather than the softer new ones!! I find mine fantastic but then I do have sufficient padding of my own to counter any hardness!! 😉

In all seriousness they are hard but I get on fine with mine. I do know others though that have replaced their hard foam ones for the new softer versions as their little behinds couldnt take it for 5-6 hrs!! I think the best thing would be to see if someone will let you have a go for a full match length as changing the seat after you have bought the box is an expensive doo!!!

            Cheers John!

I did have a Watercraft Box with the hard foam pole cushion years ago and after a few months I found it pretty comfortable!

I doubt i’ll get the lend of anyone’s but i’ll try one out in Cloughbally Mill Angling centre. I’m sure i’ll get used to it after time anyway.

            Any other verdicts?

When i bought mine it came with the foam heel seat and i hated it for a few reasons firstly it leaked were the pole strap dissapeared through the base and filled the tray underneath with water tried silicon no joy.

Secondly i found it really uncomfortable the back of the seat is raised (for support???)and i found i couldnt get my arse on fully and felt like i was slipping off, the other problem i found was the raised bit got in the way when swiveling on the box to fish the margins again because of the raised bit i only found i could get a cheek and a half on(btw ive not got a massive arse lol!!)

              Thirdly its too hard!

I bought the standard rive sewn seat to replace it but like you i found it squashed to nothing.

Then i saw the custom made ones on ebay and took a chance and bought one blind, without doubt the best £40 ive ever spent.
Ive had it well over a year now and its still as good as the day i fitted it, first class quality and really comfy.Quite a few people have them round my way.

The guy who makes them is a regular at Makins im sure some of the lads on here will give you his details

                  Cheers Glebe!

So if I have a small arse and have no need to fish the margins and no tackle to store in the 30mm drawer below then the heal cushion should be OK? lol I’m not that big, well under 6′ and aroundabout the 12 stone mark so maybe someone my size will agree with this seat. The leaking could cause a problem with the weather over here 🙁

The leaking is a pain – my box was full of water after a Whiteacres festival match at Trewaters last October – had to dry off everything afterwards, what a pain.

I have removed the “saddle” and put black silicon in the gaps – this has solved the leaking but must admit I am considering one of the custom seats.

Btw the proper leather Rive ones are about £200 and imo also too hard – I borrowed one to try last year.
A “platforms” box seat on the rive box would be nice!

Even that name sounds expensive, I’m afraid to look!

the heeled seat gave our kid the NOBBY STYLES!
so he swapped his for the new foam one!

gotta say ive had the original hard heel cushion and ive no complaints. Very comfortable and has improved my posture as i no longer get a bad back after fishing 14.5m+ all day
