The total catch for May on Ireland’s River Blackwater was 53 salmon. This is the third best ever recorded and the best since 1996.

        Looking Good for June
So far for June we have caught 27 salmon to 14.6lb on the Blackwater.
The total caught so far for June is already better than the catch for the whole month last year.
Of these, 26 to 14.6lb (averaging 8.6lb) were caught in the 8 days from June 6-13 for a total of only 52 rod days.
Most of these are late May fish that have been running the lower river in the last week.
These fish would normally hold up between Clondulane & Fermoy weirs when the water level is down.
The total catch for the season to date is 97 fish for 450 rod days which is an excellent result for the spring.

With some heavy downpours of rain last night in the upper catchment, the upper river is rising gradually.
This latest fresh should move all these fish on towards the upper river.
There is a lot more rain (25mm or 1″) forecast for tomorrow night, followed by dry weather right through the weekend,
so the prospects for the coming weekend are superb.
