I have not been down there for 2 seasons, but it cannot of changed that much.
Barbel on pellet for the bigger fish, but be prepared to wait for them. Feed 4mm halibut and vary the pellet size on the hair.
I have taken some good fish on meat and Boilies down the inside as well.
Meat does not have to be huge pieces either as a lot of people think.
There are good stages on the Ripple section, but have some long extending bank sticks with you.
If I see a mate of mine, I will ask him what last season was like, as he fishes there regular in season.
When is your match? I only ask as I never think the Severn fishes well for Barbel early season (as in beginning of the new season).
I would always try a bit of popped up crust on a light lead first few casts as well and let if come back round – if the Chub are there, don’t take your eyes off your rod as the takes are vicious. I use a fresh crust off a loaf from the bakers that morning on a size 8 and fish it at 12 to 18″ off the deck.

            Thanks Paddy you’re a superstar.

Is it very deep? Does it have a lot of flow or just steady.

We are coming up from the Swindon area so wouldn’t have a chance to visit the venue.
Our match is the last weekend of july.

Many thanks again for your help

Depends what peg your in and the level if we have had lots of rain, but generally aim at around 8ft.
Don’t be scared to come right down on pellet size as well, down to 6 or 8mm and use the lasso (sp)?
I have text my friend and as and when he gets back, I will let you know.

                Cheers Paddy

I have just found out that we are fishing the BAA stretch up to the motorway bridge as it has more pegs available. I should imagine that the two stretches will be similar.

                Many thanks again

Have a look at the BAA website – bit of info on there.
                  http://www.baa.uk.com/where-fish/severn/ripple-birds-meadow/
If the Bream are going to have a go, I would have a 50/50 mix ready of crumb and GB, with the usual hook baits, including worms.
It may be well early for the Roach and Minnows could be problem.
The Barbel there run to big sizes, albeit that it is not prolific which is why I said be prepared to wait for them.
If it was me, I would go boom or bust for the whiskers!
