TF_robjppCan anyone advise on the fishing around Beeston Marina on the Trent in Nottingham? I am attending a conference at the University of Nottingham and Beeston looks like it is within walking distance and seems an interesting bit of water on google maps! Any comments/alternatives within walking distance of the Uni would be gratefully received.

Cream of notts uniParticipantwell, as you might be able to guess from my username, i went to notts too mate, what are you studying?
I used to fish all over that area, if you like your canal fishing, the beeston canal is excellent, i used to live in dunkirk and fished it every week in the winter on bloodworm, and on the vening matches on hemp and squatt, solid with roach adn skimmers. some very good anglers to mix with too if they are still running the matches.
in the early autumnm, the waggler and stick fishing at clifton bridge is amazing, big doubles/low 20lb nets of big dace, roach, perch and odd chub.
in the summer, the rapids directly below the long deep glide at beeston weir around the corner are solid with big chub (some over 6lb) and they can be caught on freelined lobby, and believe it or not, they go mad for spinners, I had 7 in 40mins once early season on a mepps spinner, smallest 4lb, biggest just over 6. vicious takes.
the gravels can fish well at beeston too.
drop us a pm fella and i’ll put you on some fish hopefully, also, used to fish for matchman supplies in the winter league, and can vouch for the fact Tim is an excellent source of info. -

TF_Paugar08Hi guys new to this site and pretty new to the trent. Just moved to beeston with the mrs and been down to the marina and I seen a couple of nice swims I would like to fish the bar and cafe side. It’s past the cafe and through the 1st gate. Spoke to a bloke in the cafe he reckons its a day ticket stretch for about half a mile but I can’t find anything about it on net. I know other sides notts angling but can anyone help me with the day ticket side. I would appreciate the help and any tips on how to fish this stretch of water. Many thanks in advance Paul.
