Re arrange it- it’s not fishing at all well.

it’s quite fast and streamy- I’d try a heavy(ish) stick float and just fish it off the end of the rod. It’s not terribly deep- about 4-5′ in most swims, but there is a very deep hole at the upstream end. If you draw in this area, sit it out on the feeder for a big barbel or a couple of chub.
Stick with standard baits, like maggot and hemp, and to be honest, if you get 3lb of bits, you’ll have had a cracking day.

What a horrid place to fish…Out of a small turnout of 20 anglers only 5 weighed in. The winning weigh was 9 pound plus ( 3 x 3lb chub ) and the other four was either made up with the odd chub or the odd small fish. The 15 anglers who never weighed, never even had a bite….One to miss in future..

sounds simialar to our match on the trent at sawley, no dry nets but 5lb9oz(including a bonus eel of 2lb) won i came 4th with 3lb 2oz! and i worked my bol£%cs off for that

A better option is the town waters through Burton – 20lb+ needed to win at the moment and double figures to frame.

Also i noticed that there were numbers of large red crayfish in the sides…Weather this made a difference to the smaller fish, i dont know, or am i just looking for an excuse.

Sorry to say it- but I told you so!
The Burton town waters are fishing better SF, but it’s peggy.
I think the problem with the Trent this year, as with the Avon and some other rivers, is that the floods washed away much of the weed, and the relatively dry spell since has seen the waters lose all colour.
I had a match on the Derwent a week or so back, and it was a right grueller- 3-8 won, and I got third with 1-12! (mind you, we could have added at least a pound to the top 3 weights if we’d weighed in the trout!)
The Trent’s not much better further downstream, my recent match at Caythorpe wasn’t any better than the Derwent.
Strangely though, I hear the Embankment in the middle of Nottingham is fishing well- do you think fish might feel safefr in an urban environment when the water’s clear?
                          Food for thought.
