River Wandle

After the terrible pollution the other week causing all the fish deaths, has anybody actually been and had a look at the river? I have heard they are classing it as a dead river, hope that is not the case. Anybody recommend any other local little London rivers to fish, ideally south west, wandle was great as got the bus from outside my house to the river, have to use public transport.
