Fish week 1,882 (season 31,789) Returns 512(7,277) Rod average 3.67 (4.36)Fish are being caught across many areas of Rutland Water, with various tactics working from top of the water dry fly, to deep fished flies. The sustained high pressure throughout last week combined with light easterly winds blowing off the dam, resulted in a light algal bloom which stacked up along the bottom of the south arm (more so than the north). This slowed down the action in the south where it had been one of the top spots to investigate.
Boat anglers who fished the South Arm caught well around Old Hall through to Yellowstone and Spud Bay. Anglers who tried the north caught off Whitwell front through to Barnsdale and Dickenson’s Bay.
There is still a good head of fish out in the open water from Old Hall through to East Creek and down onto the main basin.Bank anglers are now coming across fish from Old Hall, Yellowstones, Inmans Spinney through and to Spud Bay, Sykes Lane has also seen fish caught as well as the Dam.
The best fish of the week were Martin Blakeston’s 6lb 2oz Brown and Mike Burnside’s 5lb 4oz Rainbow. Both were taken off the boats in the South Arm including good fish caught by both anglers, with Mike catching further Rainbows to 4lb and returning two Browns, both estimated over 4lb.
Belgian anglers Henri Eerens and partner Christ’l Van Wyngaert paid Rutland a visit and enjoyed a successful trip with plenty of fish, many around the 3lb mark the best at 4lb on their last session on the Saturday.
Another 4,000 rainbows were stocked last week around the reservoir from the bottom of both arms to the Main Basin, this has brought the total to 81,000 for the season.
Big fish are being reported showing and prospects are looking very, very good with masses of fry showing around the shoreline and insect activity has been good with olives in particular appearing on most days, along with hatches of tiny sedge buzzers. Anglers have been catching on Daddy Long Legs despite the fact that not many have been hatching.
Fish have shown a variety of food in stomach contents, with fry, stickle backs, snails, corixa, daphnia, and a few olives/small buzzers.Boat demand

Fish week 316(season 9,871) Returns 62 (2,480) Rod average 5.0(3.9)Pitsford Water is in fantastic form with a rod average of 5.0 for the week. A multitude of methods and flies are proving effective, the key being to present them in the top two feet of water.
Rick Barlow and his boat partner John Archer had a super day taking over 20 fish using hoppers and crunchers on floating lines. Interestingly they found that the fish wanted the nymphs fished at speed. Richard Williams continues his fine form taking another excellent fish on Sunday morning using FAB’s and nymphs on a washing line.
Russell Spencer ended his three day package having boated vast numbers of fish with drifts across the Narrows and Brixworth Bay areas using nymphs. The best areas are the Narrows, Brixworth Bay and Pines.
The banks are still worth a try too. Rob Collins fished most mornings and has been picking up nice fish from all areas. He had two on tadpoles and small lure patterns most mornings this week.
Lure fishing has continued this week with many Perch and Pike being caught. The best reported Perch weighed around 3lb whilst the biggest Pike of the week was 17lb.
