For anyone who knew him and still isn’t aware, Mick Kearns was killed last night in Newquay. A sad loss.

I’m really struggling to come to terms with this news.

I’ve rented a few vans from Mick over the last few years and nothing was too much trouble for him in ensuring that his clients had a comfortable holiday in his accommodation.

On one occasion when I was driving back and my wife and daughter were flying back up (the car was full and there was no room for them), without prompting Mick offered to drive them to Newquay airport and wouldn’t accept any payment for his kindness.

I hope some form of memorial match can be held at White Acres in the future and feel that it will be well attended if held.

Mick was a real genuine guy and I consider it a privilege to have known him.

RIP Mick, White Acres won’t be the same without you there

                    Thanks for the post.

Absolutely gutted at this news. Mick was one of the most memorable characters down at White Acres and I shared many a ‘jug’ with him.

He also did a hell of a lot for me, and as others have said, nothing was too much trouble.

Don’t know what else to say, other than rest in peace and although I don’t have any fishing gear any more, I’ll beg steal or borrow if there’s a memorial match.

This is really awful – still can’t get my head around it after chatting to Mick every day for last two weeks then he’s gone.
As I posted on Facebook my sincere condolencies to Micks family and many close friends – I was proud to regard him as a fishing buddy whilst at Whiteacres over the last 10 years or so and am genuinely gutted over this, he was a top bloke. I can’t begin to imagine how those really close to him feel.
Rest in peace big fella, you will be sorely missed by all who knew you.

Echo Rhinos sentiments, he was like a fixture at W/A and will be sadly missed.
I guess the facts surrounding the events will be slow to emerge, I never regarded Newquay as a dangerous place to be out in but guess like most places things just aint what they used to be.
The press reports seem to have moved away from murder.
I am sure the W/A villiage is feeling the pain of his loss,RIP.

Have those door men been sentenced for this ?

Anthony, I spoke to someone in the know in June and this had still not been resolved. I was told Mick’s body had not been released for a funeral yet as the cause of death was still unknown. My source said he had been in direct contact with Micks family so I trust the info is accurate. If this has changed since I am not aware..
I assumed the events on the night centred on maybe excessive drink, (not Mick incidentaly as I am assured he was stone cold sober preparing his vans for the next day switch over).
The club in question, where the incident occurred , still has staff under suspicion but until a cause of death is established nothing can happen.
I really feel for the family, as anyone who has been through a bereavement will know, your head is in a complete spin and only after the funeral can you even begin to think about starting to move on.
I am down at W/A at the end of the month so may learn more then, I just pray for Micks family that this sorry tragic event can be concluded for their own peace of mind.

Incidentally my source also advised of another sudden death on the Cornish circuit. Those who fished the Gwinea matches will know the guy, I didnt, but the match organiser there died of a heart attack the week after Mick.
Sort of makes you think and reflect on the meaning of life sometimes.

Thanks John I’m just interested I knew Mick in 2000 we both had pubs in Cheltenham and I did a bit of door work with Graham Waters so we met on numerous occasions, I had a bar on the corner of Clarence square and Mick owned one just up the road off the 4019. In short he sorted out a not very nice pub up and made it into a decent friendly place, its not an easy trade to be in when your turning gypsies and all manner of crap out of your business on a daily basis. Mick was a nice man and I was very shocked to hear this had happened, especially in Newquay of all places.

Anthony, as I said if I learn anymore I will advise but obviously before posting info on here on such a sensitive matter I need to be sure of the facts.
I cant think of a worse scenario for the family and I sincerely feel for them.
