TF_minnow-maulerI fished at Stokes bay on Friday afternoon and a seal was swimming west towards Lee. It was about 20 – 30 feet off the beach. As H.A said no fish

neil bAs above, usually when a seal arrives, that means time to move. Mind you, they do have their uses… seals fur is great for flytying and my sporran is made of sealskin – and very nice it is too!

Desperate DanParticipantHello peeps …. some bad news for you I am afraid. We are just coming into the period of time where the seal pups have finished weening and will be going their own way. I am a Marine Mammal Medic for the BDMLR in Kent and we have had more calls over the last two weeks of pups coming ashore than in the last two years. So unfortunately, the numbers are growing …..

Corndawg moderatorParticipantThere is a few around Mablethorpe, and that area,as there are two seal sanctuaries…
All the fit ones are re released, and they still hang around there,as though they know if they get into trouble, someone will help them.
The trouble starts when they all get together and go clubbing……………..
Bloody murder it is !!
Said very T.I.C,and with no malice.

iowaJust think, Seal pup buddies, hats and boots, if its good enough for an Esquimaux its good enough for me.
And if cooked properly the meat aint half bad.(so a bloke down the pub says) -

TF_Leon RoskillyProblem is that the seals now face very little competition for food from the larger fish that used to be far more prevalent inshore.
So, their numbers are growing.
Bring back the days of fairly common large shore caught cod and bass etc., feasting on the pin-whiting and pout etc, sand there would be less of a share of the available food to support an increased seal population.
Even when seals are wiped out in their thousands by virus, their numbers soon bounce back, deomonstrating that culling is likely to be just as ineffective.
The good news is that you only find seals when there are fish around (even though they are all mainly small fish).
