Its that time again to start not only thinking about the new year to come but also to reflect on the one shortly to pass.
For me its been a very up and down season, I strained my back at the end of May, rushing some gardening in preparation for a full summer of fishing! I just about regained some mobility by July and went to the Glebe only to find gates locked due to KHV!
Pellet wag for me is not what it was, like most methods the fish wise up and more subtle approaches are needed. Same with paste fishing, sometimes you cant buy a bite without feed but if you feed its foul hook city all day. On the pellet front I have found me dropping down to 6mm to get bites as the fish back off larger pellets in open water, whereas down the edge its the other way around.
Feeding has mostly been light even down the edge. I also discovered on some days how I laid my rig in made a huge difference, not something I have found before.
My wife lost both her parents this year after caring for them for almost 10 years. its also been my first year at the Glebe without my mate Terry who sadly passed away last October. The lady who’s van I rent at W/A has just emailed me as she is packing up due to a terminal family illness!
Overall I would summarize by saying the year has been a challenge but I cant recall ever leaving the bank and not thinking what a great time I had along with the knowledge that I am fishing some of the best waters our country offers. I salute the fishery managers for providing such a feast in spite of everything nature throws at them.
        How’s your year gone?
